Description
HOWLIN’ WOLF
Rare sides / Rare LP
Before Howlin’ Wolf became completely owned by Chess Records, he was recording down in Memphis with Sam Phillips for some sessions that wound up with the Bihari Brothers in Los Angeles, and some of them were issued on RPM records in 1951.
This Lp, issued by Crown Records in 1962, takes in many of the sides that were available on those rarely seen 78s, and many tracks that were, at the time, new and unissued. Two of the songs in this set (Backslide Boogie / Twisting And Turning) are instrumentals, that are actually Joe Hill Louis, but were included in the set anyway. Perhaps the Sam Phillips masters were not labeled clearly.
This is a great set, in glorious MONO and a deep groove 175 gramm pressing.
