Description
I bought this record new in the early eighties and taped it straight away, it has only been played a dozen or so times since then. The discogs listing for the original 1976 Australian Larrikin issue of this record is LRF-061. The catalogue number on this record is Larrikin ELEC 4342 and I am assuming that it is a reissue from the early eighties, which is when I bought it. Either way it is still hard to find in any edition. The record was originally recorded in 1974 and released by Alligator Records in the US in 1976, delayed due to the death of Hound Dog Taylor in 1975, Larrikin Records issued the Australian release. All the tracks are live recordings but the audience noise is not intrusive and only heard at the end of the performances, and the production is as clean as a studio recording with only a slight "room sound" at the beginning of some tracks where some hum from the amps can be heard. The majority of the tracks are full on high volume Chicago Blues. There is an instrumental, "Kitchen Sink Boogie" where rhythm guitarist Brewer Phillips takes the lead to deliver a blistering solo.There are also a couple of other deviations from Taylor's usual repertoire, notably a rocking instrumental version of "Comin' Round The Mountain", and a nod to funk with "Let's Get Funky". For a three man outfit these guys really put out a big sound. The vinyl on both sides is clean and shiny and both sides play LOUD and clear, there is a minor scuff on side two which was on there when I bought it, it does not affect the sound(VG+) The cover is clean front and back and there are no stickers or writing. There is some light ring wear top and bottom on the front cover and also on the back from years of storage. All the edges are intact, no splits or tears, and the spine is still rigid and can be easily read in the shelf(VG). For track listings see photos 5 & 6
