The Homosexuals E.P. 12"

Extremely rare 12" EP from Uk art-punk / diy legends THE HOMOSEXUALS!!! The band has retained a legendary status because of the scarcity of their recordings, nearly all made privately with really crazy homemade cover, some handpainted! Nurse with wound also refers to their member L.Voag and his craziness in the Nurse with wound list of influences, while some of the songs remind heavily Wire and some other art-punk experimental craziness. The Homosexuals emerged from a peculiar corner of the British rock scene that had managed to give birth to various forms of punk (Magazine, Swell Maps) as well as late 70s art rock (Chris Cutler, Fred Frith, Robert Wyatt) and the power-pop explosion that would also later infect the USA. The three members of the band -- Bruno, Anton (a/k/a George Harassment) and L'Voag -- met in 1978 at a communal squat somewhere in London. Voag apparently met Bruno by accident, during a skinhead rally, and began jamming with him --" mindless three-chord music," as he put it. Eventually the band started recording under the wings of Chris Grey at Surrey Sound Studios. Grey's contributions towards the band's sound would eventually make him into something like an honorary member of the group, especially since his mother apparently footed the bill for many of the band's early 7" releases. Almost all of the tracks recorded with Grey's input have an experimental flair to them which the band embraced readily. Voag eventually left to continue on his own in a highly experimental and personal vein, while the Homosexuals continued to record on-and-off on their own. Many of them also did their own solo work -- Anton recorded a solo LP, Masai Sleepwalking (with input from the others), which is as outlandishly wonderful in a grungy basement-tapes way as anything the Homosexuals (or any of their sidebands) did. The band mated catchy songwriting and strong melodies with experimental and prog-rock flourishes -- gearshifting time signatures, song breaks that threatened to turn one song into another -- that managed to sound like they were natural outgrowths of the songs themselves rather than something grafted on gratuitously. At worst, this came off as fractured and spastic, but at its best, in songs like "Walk Before Imitate" or "Divorce Proceedings from Reality," it was like a door being kicked down to a new kind of pop music that hasn't been explored in the same way since. The band also blended in elements of the No-Wave scene like quasi-atonal funk bass, and even full-out reggae influences; there's even an homage to the German prog-rock monolith Faust in "Mad Bombers of Major Valour" (from the Vencer with Emos side project). Cover lies in excellent- condition, being a thin-paper with a paper seal that is opened in order to get the record outside while the vinyl is also in excellent condition!! A must have album for fans of art-punk, DIY, Wire, L.Voag, It's War boys, Sara goes pop, experimental punk, new wave, Nurse with wound, avant-garde music!!!
