Description

Up for auction is an amazing six vinyl LP set of classical opera records titled TRISTAN und ISOLDE. Issued in the early 1950’s on the HMV (His Masters Voice) Record label as ALP 1030-ALP 1035. Made and printed in Great Britain. This was recorded in German and features Kirsten Flagstad, as Isolde and Ludwig Suthaus as Tristan. The great Wilhelm Furtwangler is the conductor of Richard Wagner’s opera.

Except for the first LP, side 1 and 2, which grades VG+, due to scuffs, visually the six LP’s look VG++ overall. A few of the twelve sides have some light scuffs, light sleeve scraps or hairlines. Several of the vinyl sides look VG++ to Mint Minus. Nice and bright shine, sheen and high gloss. They play loud, clear, crisp and mostly clean. During a few of the quieter sections on a few of the vinyl records, a light surface sound is noticed with a now and then tic. Granted these are not near mint but are decent and nice sounding copies of an almost sixty year old record.

The center labels look clean. No spindle marks, a very light spindle hole wear/whitening is noticed but center holes have sharp corners and look decent. No stains, ink marks, rips or tears. Center labels grade VG++.

Five of the six outer  cover jackets are gatefold with the sixth being just a plain jacket non gatefold which looks original. There is some light bottom seam wear, a few corner dings or wear rounding, very light jacket to jacket center ring wear. A few might have a 1/2” spine, corner, seam split but overall they grade VG+ except for volume one (ALP 1030) which has some cover creases, bends or tathering near top left corner. This cover by itself grades G+ to VG-. Seam has come unglued most of the way on gatefold edge.

All six records come in a clear wax paper styled inner sleeve. I believe these are not the original “HMV” light paper printed inner sleeves but a replacement the former owner has put all his LP’s into.
