Here we have an absolute gem of a machine for those wanting to make crisp, clear, studio quality tape recordings.
Whether you intend using the machine to record from your hi-fi system and play tapes of your favourite music or record live acts/musicians, you will not in any way be disappointed – that I can promise you! This machine technically is ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!
This tape recorder was professionally serviced as recently as AUGUST 2006 by the highly respected ‘Reel to Reel’ specialist GEOFF KREMMER of ‘Service Sound’ (see www.servicesound.com) and as well as giving it a completely clean bill of health, Geoff provided his PROFESSIONAL 6 MONTH WARRANTY, which IS transferable to the winning bidder, so you can bid for this EXCEPTIONAL piece of kit with TOTAL CONFIDENCE. Geoff added that the heads on this machine show no real sign of any wear at all!
The Sony TC-755 is a two speed (3¾ & 7½ ips), three head tape deck with a 10½" reel capability, closed loop dual capstan tape drive which reduces wow & flutter to a minimum, logic controlled transport functions which permits the feather-touch control buttons to be operated in any sequence, at any time without spilling or damaging tape, an AC servo control capstan motor and an eight-pole induction motor for each of the two reels.
Other features included a record equalization switch for maximum record/playback characteristics with either normal or special tapes, mic attenuators to eliminate distortion when the microphone pre-amp stages are overdriven and a tape/source monitoring switch to take full advantage of the separate Ferrite and Ferrite record and playback heads. This is indeed a ‘high end’ machine!
Needless to say, all functions on this machine operate exactly as they would have done when it first left the factory. The VU meters light up nicely and give very accurate readings.
Included in the sale are the two matching 10 ½ inch metal spools shown in the pictures. One filled with 2400ft of high quality Zonal recording tape (blank & as new) and the other being the matching ‘take up’ spool. There also two NAB adapters included, plus of course the mains lead and the phono leads so you can ‘hook up’ to your stereo system.
As can be seen from the final picture below, (which shows some of the machines that I currently have in use) I am a serious collector of quality reel-to-reel machines and I can personally vouch for the absolutely superb quality and functionality of this machine. The results achieved using good quality tape and the fast recording speed of 7.5 IPS are simply stunning, putting to shame, in my view, the 'cold' 'harsh' digital sounds of today's equipment. Cosmetically this fine machine is in good order. The metal face plate has no scratches or dents, all ‘knobs buttons and switches’ are in tact and the wooden side panels are in nice condition. There are however two or three small ‘dinks’ in the edges of the wooden panels. These are NOT visible when the machine is in use and in my opinion do not detract in any way from the quality of this high end piece of kit. (If however you are particularly fastidious, then you could easily buy new edging strip from Focus, B & Q etc – about £2 – and you would then have a ‘near mint’ machine.)
