Description
HERBIE NICHOLS 10" LP "The Prophet Vol. 1" Blue Note 5068, "P", "DG," "RVG," Vinyl
This is the 1955, first-pressing, Frame Cover, 10", Flat Rim, Deep-Groove, "RVG"-etched, "P"-pressing of HERBIE NICHOLS "The Prophet Vol. 1" on the 767 Lexington Ave NYC labels of Blue Note BLP 5068. Musicians include Herbie Nichols, Al McKibbon, Art Blakey.
This extremely rare Blue Note original VINYL plays with consistent low level surface noise. Music signal rises above the surface noise, however: very strong, dynamic, clear, pure and rich in tone. No skips. No warps. Locked groove Side 2, #2. Both sides have fair gloss. Many hairline marks, only a few feelable marks. The Deep Groove "767 Lexington Ave NYC" labels show wear. See photos. As with all Lexington Ave to New York USA Blue Note pressings, imperfections do not detract from this powerfully recorded and pressed vinyl.
LAMINATED FRAME COVER is in good shape, left top spine torn, 1" split lower seam, top seam perfect. Please see photos. The back jacket shows age, otherwise very nice, clean. See photos!
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
