DESCRIPTION

Herbie Mann’s Californians - “Great Ideas Of Western Mann” Riverside Records RLP 12-245 (Mono) from 1957. Hard to Find Original First Pressing Deep Groove Mono Jazz album from Herbie Mann and his Californians with Jack Sheldon, Jimmy roles, Buddy Clark and Mel Lewis. On this LP Mann is featured on Bass Clarinet rather than his usual Flute. On the Deep Groove Blue with Silver Print Riverside Mono labels. In the Original Laminated Sleeve with no Cutouts or Barcode.

CONDITION

The Laminated Sleeve is in nice shape. There is some slight shelf wear and corner softening. There is a “crease” in the lamination in the upper right - I believe it is a paste-up error rather than an actual crease. There is a bit of dirtiness on the white back and there is an old price tage in the upper right. Still very solid with no splits, stains, other writing, cutouts, tears, etc. and would rate as at least a good VG and probably really VG+. The Vinyl itself is in clean Glossy condition looking lightly played. If you look closely you can find some slight scuffs and faint hairlines. Plays pretty much perfectly but with some super soft groove noise which you really only notice on one quiet song (Side 2, Song 2) and even then it’s not distracting. I’m calling it VG+ for the minor fault but mostly plays much better and may be improved by a better cleaning than I can give with my Discwasher brush. The labels show a couple faint spindle trails but are otherwise Near Mint.

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less!
