THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE ALBUMS IN THIS COLLECTION HAD BEEN HORDED OVER A PERIOD OF 30 YEARS STARTING IN THE MID-1980s AND CONTINUING UP THROUGH 2014!
TO SAY THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER WAS OBSESSED WITH COLLECTING WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT.

VERY RARE ORIGINAL PRESSING OF MERRILL'S 1954 DEBUT - 62 YEARS AGO!
COVER IS IN VG++/EX CONDITION WITH A PARTIAL SEAM SPLIT IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER.
VINYL IS IN G/VG CONDITION BUT PLAYS MUCH BETTER THAN IT LOOKS!
MOST OF THE ALBUM PLAYS WITH LIGHT SURFACE NOISE AND OCCASIONAL POPS/CLICKS. THERE IS SOME DISTORTION TOWARDS THE END OF SIDE TWO DUE TO WEAR IN THE GROOVES.
INCREDIBLY HARD LP TO FIND IN ANY CONDITION!
Though she eventually came to be known as a "singer's singer," Helen Merrill's 1954 debut is an unmitigated success of mainstream jazz. Besides introducing the uniquely talented young singer, the date also featured small-group arrangements by Quincy Jones and marks the introduction of another future star, trumpeter Clifford Brown. Formidable as his playing is, Brown never overshadows Merrill. She is fully up to the challenge on all fronts and enthusiastically tackles uptempo numbers such as "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To" and "Falling in Love with Love" with aplomb. A winning stylistic combination of cool jazz and hard bop, Merrill particularly excels on Mel Tormé's "Born to Be Blue," making the sophisticated tune her own as she revels in Tormé's down-and-out lyric.

We ship all LP's in new (unused) custom LP mailers. We pack records with filler pads, placing the disc in an inner sleeve outside the cover to prevent seam splitting in transit. Part of our postage fee covers the cost of the mailer and pads (which currently costs us up to a dollar per).

RECORD GRADING POLICY
MINT = like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects, a 9 or better on a 1-10 scale
EXCELLENT = Would be Near Mint, except for a couple of light hairlines or scuffs, which do not affect play
VG++ = still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light, surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like which should not materially affect play
VG+ = a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few pops, but has no serious problems.
VG = a well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.
VG- = a very well-worn record that plays through without skipping, but will do until a better copy comes along.
Good = not actually good at all but probably will play through but with much in the way of surface noise, pops, crackles, etc. Still, will have no cracks, chips or the like
Fair = you'?re getting this record just to own but not to play
Poor = the sky's the limit, generally I will discard a record this bad (and sell the cover, jacket or sleeve alone) unless the label holds some particular interest
