Even if you're not mad keen on their actual music, there are some unsung artists that people need to recognise, many of who never really get that recognition. Gem Archer is among those names. One of the UK's most prolific indie musicians, his resume namechecks a list of guitar greats and household names, and yet such is the unfairness of the creative industries a lot of people remain clueless as to who this is. So let's just say Oasis, Beady Eye and High Flying Birds have all benefited from his talent in the last two decades.

Skip the record way back before all that, though, and there was Heavy Stereo. A record that shouldawouldacoulda done great things, it's really only due to the relentless stream of high profile albums British indie rock spewed out in the 1990s that this one didn't get picked up by more people. Catchy poppy rock with 5% lager swagger and plenty of wit, here's proof there's still plenty worth digging for even in the most dug eras in modern music.
