"Heavy Metal" is a 1981 Canadian fantasy-animated film directed by Gerald Potterton and produced by Ivan Reitman and Leonard Mogel, who also was the publisher of "Heavy Metal" magazine, the basis for the film. The screenplay was written by Daniel Goldberg and Len Blum. The film is an anthology of various science fiction and fantasy stories adapted from "Heavy Metal" magazine and original stories in the same spirit. Like the magazine, it has a great deal of graphic violence, nudity and sexuality. The soundtrack was released on LP in 1981, but for legal reasons, was not released on CD until 1995. The album peaked at #12 on the Billboard 200 chart. Blue Oyster Cult wrote and recorded a song called "Vengeance(The Pact)" for the film, but the producers declined to use the song because the lyrics provided a capsulized summary of the "Taarna" vignette. "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" was used instead. Both songs can be found on Blue Oyster Cult's "Fire of Unknown Origin" album. This is the Extremely RARE, 1981 "Heavy Metal" Movie Soundtrack on Japanese Import Double Vinyl LP with Obi, on Elektra Asylum Records, CBS Sony Records Release. The catalog # on the spine is: 40AP 2122 3. There is no barcode on the record. The cover of the record is graded as EX++/NM condition by Goldmine Standards. The vinyls are visually graded as EX++/NM condition. LOOKS NEW!! I have never played the records as I knew they were quite rare, and I have the US vinyl version on record and cd. Also, I have never seen the Japanese Import vinyl version of "Heavy Metal" on Ebay. Records were also stored in a heavy duty anvil case since 2006 and comes from a smoke/pet free home. Included as a Bonus is the Rare, US 1981 "Heavy Metal" The Score Vinyl LP, on the Elektra / Asylum Label. It is a "White Label" PROMO LP. Please see pics. Overall condition of this lp is graded as VG+. Unusual for the time, an LP recording of Elmer Bernstein's score was released alongside the soundtrack in 1981, and it featured the composer's first use of the ondes martenot, an instrument which became a trademark of Bernstein's later career. The Score was performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with the London Voices and Jeanne Loriod on the ondes martenot. Shipped following business day as soon as payment is received.
