The Hippy Boys began shortly after The Gaylads broke up, according to Max Romeo in David Katz book PEOPLE FUNNY BOY, The Genius Of Lee Scratch Perry. Soon the Hippy guys evolved to include the young Aston 'Family Man' Barrett and Carlton 'Carly' Barrett, the bass and drum brothers who went on to become Perry's Upsetter band in the late 60's which led to their involvement with Bob Marley & The Wailers. This then laid the foundation for Fams and Carly touring the world with Bob Marley through-out the 70s. This rare release from Sonia Pottinger shows their early instrumental prowess in the days when they were a fresh sound on the Jamaican music scene. With Glen Adams on organ, Reggie Lewis and Ronnie Bop on guitars, The Hippy Boys forged a reggae instrumental groove that's easily on par with Booker T & The MGs, their contemporaries in the soul music scene. Heavy-gram vinyl is in VG+ condition on an original High Note Records pressing distributed by Tip Top Record Centre in Kingston, Jamaica. No skips, no warp, no scratch. Silk-screened like cover is in VG shape with no seam splits, minor bent corners, slightly frayed edges and small fading (see photos).
