Description
Dove Acetate from 1968 with the songs "Red Rover, Red Rover" and "The Countess" typed out on the labels. Both sides have a few very light marks and I’d grade it visually somewhere between VG+ and VG++ while both sides play a strong VG++ to mint. Really great sound!
Here’s a one-of-a-kind acetate from the Candy Floss folks in Minneapolis that was recorded at Dove Recording Studio. One side is the A-side of The Puddle 45 “Red Rover, Red Rover” which came out on Candy Floss C.F. 104 and is a superb bubble-gum styled track. The other side is Eric Marshall and the Chymes song “The Countess,” which came out on Sire 45-ST-4101 and is supposedly the local band T.C. Atlantic playing under a pseudonym. Both songs are written by Steinberg/Paulak/Goldberg, which was the Candy Floss song-writing team. (Note: I believe that Dale Menten had left by this time due to artistic conflicts.)
This acetate came from a radio station in Duluth so it was probably sent out to get some advance radio play before the records were released.
While you occasionally see the Eric Marshall & the Chymes "The Countess" 45 offered (a clean one is up for grabs in my current auction), the Puddle "Red Rover, Red Rover" 45 is super rare and I’ve only seen one copy in 30+ years of collecting.
EBAY NO LONGER SUPPORTS ADDING AUDIO CLIPS FROM YOUTUBE ON THEIR LISTINGS. However both songs can be heard on Youtube and are reissued on the excellent compilation “Candy Floss-The Lost Music Of Mid America” CD.
