HARRY SMITH Folkways 251 Pre-War HILLBILLY 1952 DBL lp "American Folk Music, Vol. 1, Ballads" - this is an awesome! 1952 double LP compilation of rare pre-war folk/hillbilly 78rpm records collected by the legendary Harry Smith (see info on Smith below) - full artist list and track list below - original pressing on some of the heaviest vinyl I've ever seen for a 12" LP.  got to be 200gram vinyl at least

Visual Grading:
Vinyl: strong VG (light marks.  both discs play beautifully all the way through)
Cover: VG- (writing on the front.  several corners are collapsed.)

About Harry Smith from wikipedia -
Harry Smith was a West Coast filmmaker, bohemian, and eccentric, who, around 1940, developed a hobby of collecting old blues, jazz, country, Cajun, and gospel records, 78s being the only medium at the time. While mainstream America often considered these records to be ephemeral, he took them seriously and accumulated a collection of several thousand recordings, and over time began to develop an interest in seeing them preserved and curated.  In 1947, he met with Moses Asch, with an interest in selling or licensing the collection to Asch's label, Folkways Records. [1]. Smith wrote that he selected recordings from between "1927, when electronic recording made possible accurate music reproduction, and 1932, when the Depression halted folk music sales."[2] When the Anthology was released, neither Folkways nor Smith possessed the licensing rights to these recordings, many of which had initially been issued by record companies that were still in existence, including Columbia and Paramount.  Folkways would later obtain some licensing rights.

GRADING:
SS (Still Sealed) - Never opened. (I do not believe in grading opened LPs or 45s as "Mint".  A "Mint" record is still sealed.)
NM (Near Mint)  - a near perfect, probably unplayed record.  might be dusty or have a light fingerprint, but has no marks that can be seen.
NM- (Near Mint minus) - absolutely clean with at most a few very superficial marks that have no effect on playback.
VG++ - Super clean and very lightly played.  
VG+ (Very Good Plus) - the record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little deterioration in sound quality.
VG  (Very Good) - a well used copy. There will be obvious signs of wear and the possibility of light surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages.  A VG record may have very small marks that can be felt, but feelable marks will always be specifically noted in my listings)
VG- (Very Good minus)  - significant wear and marks and usually quite noticeable surface noise.  music still dominates over any background noise or pops.  
G (good) - still a playable record without jumps or marks that stick, but a record in this condition will have significant surface noise, pops and other distractions.
