HANK WILLIAMS :
" Hank Williams, perhaps the greatest singer of American folk music, was born on a farm near Georgiana, Alabama on September 17, 1923.
He grew up singing the hymns that are the musical backbone of America. And from this simple and meaningful music, Hank gained the knowledge and feeling that made him famous as both singer and writer.
At the tender age of fourteen, Hank organized his first professional band—the Drifting Cowboys—and promptly went to work over radio station WSFA in Montgomery, Ala. In 1947 he made his first M-G-M record under the aegis of General Manager Frank Walker. It was his first record, and his first hit. The rest of his career is country-song history. Hank moved on to Nashville's "Grand Ol' Opry" and made one smash record after another. His talent was hailed by all who heard him.
On New Year's Day, 1953, while driving through West Virginia, Hank Williams died of a sudden heart attack. He was twenty-nine. " .... SLEEVE NOTES
