HANK MOBLEY – ROLL CALL – BLUE NOTE 4058 – VG_VG+/VG+ - 47 WEST 63RD – MONO
Recorded at Van Gelder’s studio on November 13, 1960, this Blue Note session features Hank Mobley on tenor, Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Art Blakey on drums. SIDE 1: ROLL CALL; MY GROOVE YOUR MOVE and TAKE YOUR PICK. SIDE 2: A BAPTIST BEAT; THE MORE I SEE YOU and THE BREAKDOWN. The address on the label is “47 West 63rd – NYC” and on the record jacket is “43 West 61st St,, New York 23”. There is an EAR on both sides of the blank vinyl and the initials “RVG” on both sides as well. This is a MONO recording
I was reluctant to place this out and found it difficult to grade the vinyl. Having decided to grade it as VG+, I determined that there is a skip on Side 2 Cut 1 at the very beginning of the “head”. It does interfere with play, but for only a few revolutions. The vinyl does have some marks on it, but plays well, except for that one spot. In fact, I cannot find that spot by looking at it, but as the LP is rare, and the LP plays with no problems, except for the one mentioned above, I decided to place it out for anyone who wants a collector’s item for a bargain basement price. That’s why I graded it VG_VG+. There is little to no wear around the spindle hole, but there a some marks on the label around it. The record jacket is graded as VG+ as it has a taped bottom seam and has discoloration on the liner notes. There is a signature on the liner notes in ink.
