H. B. BARNUM
HEARTBREAKER
H.B. Barnum is primarily a producer and arranger with an enormous number of credits dating back to the 1950's. As an artist, he debuted in 1960. His instrumental 'Lost Love' was a Top 40 hit in 1961, and during the '60's, H. B. Barnum recorded two albums for RCA, highlighting his keyboard-playing, songwriting skills and vocals.
He also recorded for Capitol, but most of his work during the '60's / 70's was as an arranger.
He has arranged for Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Etta James, Nancy Wilson, Lou Rawls, Martha Reeves, The Supremes, The Temptations, The Jackson 5, The Marvelettes, O.C. Smith, Greg Perry, Lamont Dozier, Michael Wycoff, Aretha Franklin, Jesse James ('If You Want A Love Affair', which he also co-wrote), Johnny Bristol and Gladys Knight & The Pips. He also wrote and produced for Jimmy Norman, and Gloria Bare.
That's quite a list of accomplishments. Along the way he also made some pretty cool records as the performer himself. Try this one from June of 1967. Tracks here are “Heartbreaker” and “Searchin’ For My Soul.”
