Perhaps the work most associated with Arthur Grumiaux was the Beethoven Violin Concerto, and here is a unique pressing of his first recording of this work. This legendary lp was recorded in June, 1957 with Eduard van Beinum conducting the Concertgebouw Orchestra and was among the final "mono only" recordings made by Philips in Amsterdam. This extremely limited edition is from the French Philips "Realities" series, serial #131 from catalog C.5 (as shown) and includes the deluxe booklet (as shown). A fine addition for any serious Grumiaux collector, but to have the maestro's autograph dated Feb. 1958, about 8 months after the recording was made, makes this a treasure indeed. For those of you who may not be familiar with the Grumiaux saga he was considered one of the finest violinists of the 20th century, greatly admired by Jascha Heifetz. He was born in Belgium in 1921, and died in 1986 after a long battle with diabetes. In great condition, except for the long narrow tear on front cover (as shown), the record itself looks virtually unplayed.
