About "The Graceful Ghost"... Grey DeLisle's 2004 album The Graceful Ghost was Grey's third album release, and her most adventurous recording-wise to-date. Grey wanted to create a collection of songs and record them in a way that was deeply rootsy, conveying the atmosphere and experience of what one might get listening to early-20th century field recordings or the earliest Carter Family 78's. Grey teamed up with Ben Harper's go-to producer/engineer Todd Burke, who along with Old 97's Murry Hammond, assembled an array of odd, esoteric and ancient vacuum tube recording equipment and set it up around Grey's living and dining rooms. The result was a bulls-eye. What was captured was live, raw, emotional, and other-worldly.
The Graceful Ghost stands as one of the more extraordinary roots records of the 2000's, and is still a critical favorite among fans of deep roots and modern "old-time" releases. DeLisle was riding a creative peak that continued into its followup, the equally adventurous but more garage-oriented "Iron Flowers." This deluxe edition includes the super-rare vinyl 45 "Willie We Have Missed You", which was Grey's contribution to the Stephen Foster tribute album "Beautiful Dreamer" for which Grey shared a Grammy award for "Best Traditional Folk Album" in 2005.
