Description

The Dick's Picks Series was a hodgepodge of releases masterminded by Dick Latvala until his death in 1999. Volume 12 was an interesting collection of 2 second sets from back to back shows from June 1974, part of the Dead's Summer Tour with the massive Wall of Sound amplification/PA system. The massive array of speakers and cabinets allowed the band to clearly hear themselves, and was a dream for an audience seeking aural candy. Bassist Phil Lesh said playing through the Wall was the most satisfying musical experience he ever had. The band used this sonic plate to serve up tasty new Jams on old songs, like the Jam> China Cat Sunflower that opens this set. It is probably the best version of China Cat Sunflower the band ever performed. The Providence show closes with a fantastic stand-alone encore of Eyes of the World. The next second set in Boston begins with Phil Lesh and Ned Lagin's experimental Seastones, and the band then joined for an incredible set full of exploration that reaches many peaks during the Jams out of Bob Weir's Weather Report Suite, and finally meanders into a fiery US Blues. Remastered from the original reels by Jeffrey Norman, these sets have never sounded better, and in glorious vinyl! These Real Gone reissues sell out quickly, and this one is hand-numbered to just 3000. Don't miss your chance to own this fine, fine music, make an offer today!
