Description
Extremely rare original 1973 pressing of Grand Funk’s “We’re An American Band” on Capitol Records featuring one of the wildest translucent gold swirl variants I’ve personally seen.
Unlike the standard translucent yellow/gold copies commonly found online, this example has a dramatic marbled lava-like swirl pattern throughout the entire record with deep orange, amber, smoke, and dark brown streaking across both sides. The visual presentation is absolutely stunning under light.
Deadwax / matrix:
Side 1: SMAS-1-11207 Z11
Side 2: SMAS-2-11207 Z12
STERLING stamped
The STERLING mastering and SMAS matrices match original-era 1973 Capitol pressings.
The original first run of “We’re An American Band” was intentionally pressed on translucent gold vinyl to resemble a gold record, but heavily swirled examples like this appear to be far less common and are very sparsely documented.
Vinyl grades Near Mint overall with beautiful gloss and an incredibly clean appearance. I could only spot one extremely faint superficial hairline under direct lighting. A phenomenal collector-grade copy visually.
Original gold foil jacket included. Jacket shows age/wear consistent with vintage foil covers but still displays very nicely.
This is a serious display-piece copy and an exceptional example for Grand Funk, classic rock, and colored vinyl collectors.
Auction starting at $79.99 due to rarity, condition, and collector appeal.
