When progressive rock got popular in the early 1970's there were numerous bands which had the potential to become famous but who for some reason never got the fame they deserved. One of those bands was Gracious whose S/T debut record from 1970 includes some really cool proto-progressive rock. This record was one of the first LP's released on Vertigo's swirl label by the way. An essential to any collection as Cressida, Fantasy, Czar and T2, this release oozes quality with breathtaking suites of melodic mellotron/vocal driven prog. "Introduction" kicks major ass just like both "Heaven" is simply beautiful with mellotrons, and "Hell" too. Really impressive material. "Fugue in 'D' Minor" is nice too but in my opinion it's the weakest part of this LP. The 17 minutes long "The Dream" closes the album and it's a really diverse song full of different kind of parts. It's another superb highlight and it feels like the ultimate climax here.
