Description
Glenn Gould : Bach - Goldberg Variations. Columbia (Masterworks) ML 5060
**Listed as "Used" because the outer sleeve has been opened and the record removed for inspection**
I am not a record expert, only an enthusiast. Therefore, I can only describe this record as an enthusiast - someone who buys records for the music on them, not to collect a particular pressing or jacket in a certain condition, etc. That said, I believe this one is something rather unusual. It is not often that a record survives unopened from the mid-1950s.
This record has what I believe to be the original shrink-wrap - which was unopened until I opened it to see if it really was a "still sealed" item. I have bought records before that have been re-wrapped. The edge of the shrink-wrap was carefully cut with only the tip of a razor knife.
- Original outer shrink-wrap, only opened to confirm that the vinyl is unplayed. Shrink-wrap has scuffs and mild scratches, but remains 99% intact (some tiny holes at some edges). There is also a sticker on the back from "Wollmers", where I'm guessing the record was originally for sale. - Inner sleeve (containing record) is still sealed. The square edge of the inner sleeve is sealed and has a perforation (for opening the inner sleeve) about 1/2" from the edge (see detail picture). It is intact. - Vinyl is (I believe) Mint and Unplayed - Outer sleeve is not perfect: top edge has some paper damage (see detail picture), other edges have very minor denting. Otherwise excellent condition: corners are sharp, open end of sleeve has no wear as it has only just been opened and the record removed once. *Note: The label (cover art) on front side of outer sleeve is offset in 2 ways; it is printed (or possibly cut) offset to the right and it is glued to the cardboard offset to the right. This is why the art is cut off on the right side and appears incomplete. I am fairly certain it was manufactured this way. - Page 2 Insert (of Notes started on back of outer sleeve) is Mint. No wrinkles, tears, etc.
- Item will be shipped by USPS Media Mail (not double boxed, but in standard cardboard record mailer) for $4. If you use Buy It Now at my full asking price, I will double-box and send via FedEx Ground for extra-safe delivery.
- Record in original unopened inner sleeve has been placed inside a new unused Mo-Fi Original Master Sleeve. - Page 2 Insert has been put back inside the outer sleeve - Both have been placed inside a new unused Poly Record Bag
The pictures seen in this listing and some additional large pictures can be viewed on my web gallery:http://aftbox.com/gould_goldberg_record/ The shots were hand-held which is why some details may look soft or slightly blurry. If you need more shots of a specific area or detail, contact me and I will see what I can do.
I am selling this record because I think someone else will enjoy the fact that it is unplayed more than I will.
