George Harrison
“Dark Horse”
U.S. Apple 45 with Picture Sleeve
Apple 1877 - 1974
"Dark Horse" is the title track to George's 1974 album Dark Horse, and later the name of his record label, Dark Horse Records. The song “Dark Horse” was released as a single in the U.S. in November 1974, and reached #15 in the U.S. pop singles chart.
While "dark horse" is usually a reference to an unlikely or surprise winner, George explained in his autobiography, I Me Mine, that at that time he actually didn't know that meaning of the term. His lyrics instead referred to a man who carried on one or more clandestine sexual relationships with women; a "dark horse" in Liverpool slang. The song drew on his feelings toward his disintegrating marriage to Pattie Boyd, who had left him for Eric Clapton.
This auction is for the White label Apple 45 “Dark Horse” backed with “I Don’t Care Anymore.” The Record is in Very Good+ condition, with clean, unblemished labels. The Picture Sleeve is also in Very Good+ condition, with no writing or seam splits, but a bit of ring wear.
