Description

Genuine Original autographs of 3 of The Who band members taken at the 21st January Leeds University concert early on in The Who's 1967 Tour promoting new songs including Pictures of Lily. The 3 band members are Keith Moon, which is a great example of his typical moon circle with autographed name within and sits singularly on a page behind another artist who I cannot identify. Roger Daltry sits on a single page next to Keith Moon with Pete Townsend on the reverse (not ideal for display but a good proof of provenance). Both these are excellent signatures and the Pete Townsend is particularly nice as it is signed Peter Townsend (with an r at the end of his name) with a X to the receiving fan.

The book itself is a typical 1960s autograph book with tartan cover, early pages have messages from family and friends however the Who names are followed by Mike & Bernie Winters and also Jimmy Tarbuck. These last 3  autographs were gained at Leeds City Hall later that spring/early summer at one of the Good Old Days shows (for those that can remember). The book also contained 24 autographs of the 1967 Leeds United squad members, which have been carefully removed with a scalpel (not affecting The Who signatures) and sold separately.

Provenence - The autograph album belonged to a schoolboy living in the Leeds area (his name and address appear at the front of the book) and The Who autographs were got for him by his elder sister following the concert and presented to him the next day which happened to be his birthday. The Winters Brothers & Jimmy Tarbuck were gained by his parents later that year. I have further included the schoolboys diary for 1967 which notes his birthday (the day after the concert), his name and address are in his own handwriting in both books and match correctly, also included is the schoolboys school membership card and again the hand writing corresponds and the address of the school ties in neatly with the proximity of Leeds University. The schoolboy was also a massive Leeds United fan so proximity of his address to the Leeds University gig and the 1967 Leeds Utd squad members all make sense.

I have taken very clear photographs of each of the Who band members autographs and they all correspond perfectly with autographs of the band members taken at the time

This is a unique opportunity to acquire a rare group of autographs and a true collectors item. Hopefully I have explained the origins as accurately as possible, however if you require further information please do feel free to contact me and I'll do my best to provide information. further, I will provide a written account of this in letter form with the collection of signatures.
