This auction is for Genesis' "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" LP pressed 200g by Classic Records, which is now out of print.
Few albums, especially of this epic proportion, rival this magnificent production first released in 1974. In an era of over indulgent double LP efforts and "rock operas", "Lamb" was inspired by a trip to New York City by the band, resulting in the writing and production of what is considered not only the high point of the "Gabriel era" of Genesis, but also in one of the greatest rock albums, ever. Featuring extended passages showcasing the multi-instrumental talents of the band plus the prolific and expressive if sometimes weird and disturbing lyrics by Gabriel, it tells the saga of a NYC graffiti artist named Rael and his ultimate transformation. The album would be Gabriel's swan=song as a member and help launch a still on-going solo career. Featuring the original 2-LP artwork, the songs include Fly On A Windshield, Broadway Melody of 1974, Cuckoo Cocoon, In The Cage, The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging, Back In N.Y.C., Hairless Heart, Counting Out Time, Carpet Crawlers, The Chamber of 32 Doors, Lilywhite Lilith, The Waiting Room, Anyway, Here Comes the Supernatural Anaesthetist, The Laima, Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats, The Colony of Slippermen, Ravine, The Light Dies Down On Broadway, Riding the Scree, In The Rapids, It and of course the title tune.
