Description
Genesis: The Knife Part 1 + 2 7" original mono German release with picture sleeve (Philips 6073 305, released 1971)
This is a rare genuine and original copy of the Genesis single The Knife, issued in Germany by Philips Records in 1971. It comes with the original picture sleeve printed on lightly textured paper, which features an alternative front cover design to the UK release of the track. The rear of the sleeve depicts a selection of other similar Philips single releases from the same period.
Despite the reference to stereo on the sleeve, both sides of the single are in mono and unlike the UK single which contains the whole of the second half of the song on the B-side, the version of 'Part 2' of the track on B-side of this release is only part of the song, which fades earlier.
For a record that is approaching 50 years old the single is in an extremely clean condition with absolutely no scratches, marks or discolouration of the playing surfaces of either side of the record. The labels are also very clean and there is no sign of any scuffs or damage to them.
Unlike the counterfeit pressing of this single, the record also has the machine-stamped matrix numbers on each side - the matrix for side one reads "10 AA6073305 1*21*W 320" and for side two "10 AA6073305 2W 320"
The sleeve for the single is made of thin slightly textured paper and has splits in the edge of the sleeve on both sides, measuring around 3.5 cm each. There is also some slight creasing in the sleeve in the area immediately above Peter Gabriel's head in the cover design. Apart from this the cover is in very good condition for it's age - especially given how thin the paper is.
This record has been in my personal collection for around 20 years and the disc has been stored outside the sleeve during all that time in it's own protective sleeve.
