Raro vinile, stampato da Nippon Phonogram su etichetta Charisma, appartenente alla serie Limited Edition “Rock Company 77 – Professional Collection”, con inserto di 4 pagine riportante I testi in inglese, giapponese e note biografiche e discografiche in giapponese. OBI a colori a sfondo verde, riportante il prezzo di yen 2.500.

I Genesis sono un gruppo rock britannico, cresciuto ed affermatosi all'interno del vasto movimento del rock progressivo. Sono da molti considerati una delle band più importanti e innovative della storia del rock. Durante la loro carriera, hanno venduto più di 150 milioni di dischi in tutto il mondo, inserendosi nella lista dei trenta artisti di maggior successo commerciale di tutti i tempi. Nel corso della propria storia il gruppo ha subito diversi cambiamenti di formazione, mantenendo tuttavia inalterata la presenza di Tony Banks (alle tastiere) e Mike Rutherford (alle chitarre). Le formazioni più celebri e riconosciute sono due: la prima, quella dell'affermazione negli anni settanta, comprendeva Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Steve Hackett e Peter Gabriel; la seconda, quella degli anni ottanta e novanta, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford e Tony Banks, con il costante supporto, durante i live, di Daryl Stuermer (chitarra elettrica e basso) e Chester Thompson (batteria e percussioni), che tuttavia non divennero mai membri ufficiali del gruppo. Quest'ultima formazione è anche la più longeva e quella che ha ottenuto il maggior successo commerciale. Nel corso del tempo hanno poi fatto parte della band molti musicisti provenienti da diverse esperienze musicali. Abili esecutori e compositori, i Genesis vantano anche una larga produzione di materiale dal vivo, testimoniata da numerosi album live, sia ufficiali che bootleg.

A Trick of the Tail è il loro settimo album in studio, pubblicato nel 1976. E’ il primo album dei Genesis registrato dopo l'abbandono di Peter Gabriel. Orfani del loro leader, i Genesis dovettero cercare un valido sostituto in grado di rimpiazzarlo, se non come figura carismatica, almeno come cantante. Dopo un gran numero di provini insoddisfacenti, si decise di utilizzare Phil Collins come voce solista del gruppo. Collins, chiaramente, era avvantaggiato su chiunque altro, in quanto conosceva perfettamente tutto il materiale del gruppo ed aveva già cantato in alcuni brani incisi precedentemente (For Absent Friends in Nursery Cryme e More Fool Me in Selling England by the Pound). La title track A Trick of the Tail è l'unico singolo estratto dall'album. L'album sorprese sia la critica che i fan del gruppo, convinti che, senza Gabriel, la formazione fosse condannata ad un rapido declino. Ci furono ottime recensioni e un buon successo commerciale, con la terza posizione nelle classifiche britanniche e la trentunesima posizione in quelle statunitensi (posizione mai raggiunta dai Genesis fino ad allora). Lo stile dell'album tenta di seguire i toni languidi ed acustici di Selling England by the Pound, con un progressivo abbandono delle atmosfere rock più cupe dei primi lavori a favore di un più marcato utilizzo della tecnica chitarristica di Steve Hackett, influenzata dalla musica classica. E' decisivo il contributo di Tony Banks che firma, da solo o come coautore, tutte le canzoni. Rispetto ai precedenti album, i Genesis cambiano lievemente il loro modo di concepire la musica, adattandosi a un tipo di melodia più soft; le composizioni sono più semplici e accessibili, soprattutto nei testi, i suoni sono più brillanti e gli arrangiamenti più diretti. La struggente Ripples e la sognante e malinconica Mad Man Moon suggellano il nuovo corso; la voce incisiva e carismatica del nuovo vocalist risulta abbastanza convincente. Per il resto, le composizioni di Banks (che spesso risentono di influenze classiche) e le invenzioni di Hackett e Rutherford fanno del disco un ottimo viatico per il futuro. Mirabolante risulta il pezzo d'apertura (Dance on a volcano), il cui tema viene ripreso, insieme a quello di Squonk, nella chiusura strumentale di Los Endos, che diverrà un cavallo di battaglia dei concerti successivi, spesso preceduto da Drum Duet, eccellente duetto per sola batteria solitamente suonato da Phil Collins insieme a Chester Thompson. La title track, scritta da Banks, è anche accompagna da un videoclip che mostra la band mentre esegue il brano e si avvale di alcune animazioni (come far camminare Collins dentro un pianoforte). Anche per Robbery, Assault and Battery fu prodotto un video ispirato al testo, che mostra le vicende di un rapinatore (Collins) inseguito da tre poliziotti (gli altri membri del gruppo). Nel brano spicca la sezione centrale, con un assolo di Banks alle tastiere su una complessa ritmica in 13/8. Il suono del disco risulta eccellente (merito del nuovo produttore Dave Hentschel) anche se un poco più patinato del necessario.

A Trick of the Tail is their seventh studio album, released in 1976. It 's the first Genesis album recorded after the departure of Peter Gabriel. Orphans of their leader, Genesis had to find a good substitute can replace, if not a charismatic figure, at least as a singer. After a number of unsatisfactory specimens, it was decided to use Phil Collins as lead singer of the group. Collins, clearly had an advantage over anyone else, because he knew perfectly all the material of the group and had already sung a few songs previously etched (For Absent Friends in More Fool Me Nursery Cryme and Selling England By The Pound in). The title track A Trick of the Tail is the only single from the album. The album surprised both critics and fans of the group, convinced that without Gabriel, training was sentenced to a rapid decline. There were rave reviews and commercial success, with third place in the UK charts and the thirty-first position in the USA (position ever achieved by Genesis until then). The style of the album attempts to follow the tones and languid acoustic Selling England by the Pound, a move away from rock darker atmosphere of the early work in favor of a more pronounced use of the Steve Hackett guitar technique, influenced by classical music . And 'the decisive contribution of Tony Banks, who signs, either alone or as co-writer, all the songs. Compared to previous albums, Genesis slightly changed their approach to music, adapting to a softer type of melody, the compositions are simple and accessible, especially in the lyrics, the sounds are brighter and more direct arrangements. Even for Robbery, Assault and Battery was produced a video based on the text, which shows the story of a robber (Collins) chased by three police officers (the other members of the group). In the middle section piece stands out with a solo keyboardist to the Banks a complex rhythm in 13 / 8. The sound of the disc is excellent (on the new producer Dave Hentschel) although a little more glossy than necessary.
