What a Way to Die b/w Never Thought You'd Leave Me by the Pleasure Seekers on Hideout 1006. Both sides of this great record have been comped and comped and then comped some more, so most people probably know all about it. But for anyone who doesn't, here's the story: From Detroit in 1965, this is one of the most legendary garage record of them all. A five-piece girl group, (60% being the Quatro sisters, with 15-year-old Suzie on bass and vocals) they were as tough as any of the guys. Sample A-side lyrics:
Please don't make me decide baby / Between you and a bottle of beer / Oh baby come on over / Come on over to my side / Well I may not live past 21 but / Whew, what a way to die
Yeah, she's fallen for a guy who doesn't party, and this song is her attempt to convince him that he needs to start--and if he doesn't, he's probably history. The flip side is terrific, too, if less incendiary.
This copy is VG with good gloss and some light scratches and marks. The A-side plays superbly. The B-side does, too, but you hear some pops during the quiet intro. No styrene distortion, no hiss, and the music is upfront and clear throughout. A very nice copy of a much-sought-after rarity.
GRADING
M- A flawless or nearly flawless record that appears to have seen little or no play.
VG+ Full gloss, a few light marks. A very, very attractive record that has seen limited play and has been well cared for.
VG More marks and scratches, but still a nice record. Scratches may be fairly numerous, but will be light.
VG- Lots of marks and scratches but no gauges or major problems. Not a beautiful record, but still serviceable, not junk.
G+ and G Heavy wear and marks, plays through okay.
