THE ENGLISH CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
(Leader Jose-Luis Garcia)
~ The Gala Stradivarious Concert was sponsored by Shearson Lehman Brothers International
This concert commemorated the 250th anniversary of the death of Antonio Stradivari and was in
aid of the Royal Academy of Music Appeal. All the soloists appearing and many of the string players of the
English Chamber Orchestra used instruments made by Stradivari, the greatest violin-maker the world has ever known.
~ The cover show a 1736 Stradivari violin currently belonging to Mr Peter Biddulph, the London violin dealer.
The idea for this Concert was originally suggested by Mr Biddulph as a member of the Appeal Events Committee of the Royal
Academy of Music Foundation, and the Academy would like to take this opportunity to thank him for the considerable part he has
played in its realisation.
