Vinyl Condition: NM / EX (The Wolf-Ferrari LP grades EX with only a few very light paper scuffs while the Paganini LP grades at a fabulous NM.)
Description: Original US pressing on a private label, released in amounts of 300. This includes a bonus 2nd LP with her renditions of Sibelius / Paganini / Sarasate / Falla & Suk. Includes a wonderful booklet on the “Bustabo legacy”
On Guila Bustabo: Bustabo went to Europe with her overbearing mother Blanche during the 1930’s and 40’s. Her playing for the Nazi’s and facsist Italy got her blacklisted back in the states, where she would never record again. Guila by all accounts did not wish to remain in Europe, fearing the association of playing concerts for the German Nazi’s and Italian Fascists could ruin her career. However, the money was good and her mother Blanche insisted. Bustabo has been favorably compared to Johanna Martzy, whom she met briefly. Heifetz it is rumoured warned her in the early 30’s to avoid the tumultous Europe.
These recordings were made possible by a private enthusiast wishing to revive the “Bustabo Legacy”, allowing the music to tell her story, and not allow her to be defined by her mother’s poor choice in venues.
