GROUP 1850 - live LP
Very rare 1974 Dutch album on the small private Orange label that actually captures pioneering Dutch space hippies Group 1850 during a particularly cosmic night in 1969. Swirling Floydian Rick Wright organ, Nick Masonesque cymbal washes and tribal gathering Santana drums make opener “Years In Every Day” sound like “Gypsy Queen” at the UFO Club. While the delayed FX and Star Trek library noises and cosmic thunderstorms that permeate the lengthy and trippy “Between 18 and 50 Part VII” (must be part-time CPAs on the side) make most of these jams sound like the logical precursor to the trippy krautrock sounds of the early 70’s. Amon Duul 2 in particular have a lot to be thankful for with these guys. They also seem a little ahead of the game on Side 2’s “Purple Sky,” not only because of the Roxy Music-ish glam rock sax but also because they nearly trademarked a legendary Prince album and movie title over a decade early. Side 1 ends with the stoned sounds of someone bogarting a hookah pipe. Or maybe it’s someone snoring. Alan’s Psychedelic Sleep Apnea. Fans of the band’s monumental studio albums should take note that, by the sound of this, their 1969 live shows were FAR jammier, FAR spacier, and FAR rawer, like Hawkwind covering an unrecorded late 60’s Pink Floyd live jam with cosmic pudding in the title. How about ATOM HEART MOTHER NO HEAD then?
Original Dutch private pressing on Dutch Orange label (OP-1) from 1974 in great condition.
Condition:
Cover is in excellent condition. Just price sticker damage that is coloured in.
Disc is in NEAR MINT condition.
