GRAY MATTER FOOD FOR THOUGHT MARBLED BURGUNDY VINYL DISCHORD 48V 2009 REISSUE..


This is one of four reissues from 2009 by DISCHORD reproducing Gray Matter’s first release from 1985. The other three are Green, Gray and Purple and are identified as DISCHORD 48. DISCHORD 48V is described as “Marbled Burgundy”, and the identifiers from the run out groove ( Side A “THE PUNK RUINS” and B “I THINK ABOUT TOO MANY THINGS TOO OFTEN”) corroborate this. This vinyl does not resemble what I would think “Marbled Burgundy”. It very much looks like a spattered gray or a marbled gray but this color description was verified on Discogs.


I purchased this record in 2009, played it once and it has been kept well since. Both record and sleeve are in Near Mint condition, and the lyric sheet/insert is in the same condition as well. This record was released in 1985, with Gray Matter being a key band in the DC sea change known as Revolution Summer; which begat Embrace, Rites of Spring, and Dag Nasty amongst others. None of these bands had the gristly psychedelic punch that Gray Matter brought to the table, however. While their second release “Take it Back” drew comparisons to Rites of Spring, a later incarnation of this band known as 3 (Jeff Nelson would replace Dante Ferrando on drums,) would revisit these psychedelic roots.
