GRAVY TRAIN ‘SELF TITLED’ ORIGINAL DEBUT FIRST ISSUE 1970 UK VERTIGO RECORD LABEL LP, CATALOGUE No, 6360-023

Gravy Train were a progressive rock group from Lancashire, England, formed by vocalist and guitarist Norman Barratt in 1969. Also featuring J.D. Hughes (keyboards, vocals, wind), Lester Williams (bass, vocals) and Barry Davenport (drums), the band would record four studio albums. The first two were released on the Vertigo label, the latter two by Dawn Records. The band was dissolved in 1975. Little is known about the subsequent lives of the members, except for Barratt and Williams. Barratt appeared in Mandalaband for their second and final album in 1978, then went on to form the Barratt Band, which recorded two albums in the early 1980s. Les Williams has been working at Ocean Entertainments, an agency for bands and acts, since the 1980s. J.D Hughes is currently the founding member of The New Soul Messengers, in which he plays keyboards, saxophone, and vocals.

This is the first of only two Album releases from Gravy Train on the Vertigo Record Labels, the other album release was Ballad of a Peaceful Man. Both titles are extremely rare and difficult to find in this very nice condition.

This is an original 1970 scarce UK Vertigo Records Debut Vinyl LP entitled, Gravy Train.

The album is on the rare Black & White **VERTIGO**Swirl Record Labels, with circled P date 1970.

The album comes in its original Vertigo Swirl Poly Lined Printed Bag and is housed in its original lightly textured gatefold picture sleeve.

Both record labels are in Near Mint condition, super clean record labels, showing only a couple of light signs of play to the centre of the labels.

The matrix information is, side1, 6360023 A111, side2, 6360023 2Y*13

Side A of the vinyl LP is in beautiful Near Mint condition, a super clean glossy unmarked vinyl surface.

Side B of the vinyl LP is in superb Excellent Plus condition, once again super clean glossy vinyl surface, with nothing more than a couple of light superficial surface marks.

The LP plays without faults through all the Tracks, a very powerful and clear sound quality.

The original Vertigo Swirl inner bag is a respectable example, no writing, tearing, or seam splits, just light creasing and age toning.

The Gatefold Picture Sleeve is in Excellent condition. The sleeve is free from handwriting, tearing and seam splits, with just a little restoration on the top right side of the sleeve where I believe a sticker has been removed and the area repaired, (SEE SCAN BELOW).

The centre gatefold part of the sleeve is undamaged and in Excellent Plus condition, the sepia images and printed text are unfaded.

The reverse panel of the sleeve has no damage and shows just light record storage signs.

A very nice example of this super rare 1970 original Verigo Records Debut album from Gravy Train.
