GRAVY TRAIN - BALLAD OF A PEACEFUL MAN - MEGA RARE VERTIGO SWIRL LP: This is your chance to bid on one of the scarcest Vertigo albums. This is the SUPER RARE album from 1971 by GRAVY TRAIN entitled BALLAD OF A PEACEFUL MAN. The item for sale here is the original UK album which features the legendary VERTIGO SWIRL design label which is so highly sought after by collectors. Gravy Train were a progressive rock group from Lancashire, formed by vocalist and guitarist Norman Barratt in 1970. Together with J.D. Hughes (keyboards, vocals, wind), Lester Williams (bass, vocals) and Barry Davenport (drums) they recorded four studio albums. The first two were released on the Vertigo label. Released in late 1971, (A Ballad of) A Peaceful Man was Gravy Train's second - and probably their most praised - album. Unlike their heavier debut, this album sports some lovely string arrangements, provided by Nick Harrison. A unique feature of the album is that it splits the heavy tracks from the lighter tracks: all the ballads are on side 1, while all the rockers are on side 2. Tracklisting: Side One: 1. 5. Home Again VINYL: The vinyl is in excellent condition. There are some light surface marks which cause the occasional pop & click but nothing that effects one's listening pleasure. The matrix numbers stamped in the run out grooves are as follows: Side A: 6360051 1Y//1 1 1 3 Side B: 6360051 2Y//1 1 1 1 SLEEVE:The laminated gatefold sleeve is in very good/ excellent condition. There is some corner wear & slight ring wear. There is also a small area on the spine where the print has come off & a slight split in the opening edge (just above the top of the egg). The inside of the gatefold is in excellent condition. On the rear of the sleeve the original shop sticker for "Dawsons" remains in place. The record is housed in one of the distinctive VERTIGO SWIRL inner sleeves which is in excellent condition. There is some slight "browning" discolouration along the opening edge (see photos). THIS IS A REAL COLLECTORS ITEM & THEY DO NOT COME UP FOR SALE VERY OFTEN.
