THIS ITEM COMES FROM THE INCREDIBLE, SINGLE-OWNER COLLECTION WE ACQUIRED A WHILE AGO, IN WHICH ITEMS ORIGINALLY BOUGHT BY THE OWNER FROM THE MID-1970s to THE MID-2010s WERE KEPT STILL SEALED IN A NEAR-LABORATORY, TIME-CAPSULE CONDITIONS AND IN PRACTICALLY CLIMATE- AND HUMIDITY- CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.  CONDITIONS OF SOME OF THESE ITEMS RANGE FROM IMPECCABLE TO TRULY UNBELIEVABLE. SOME OF THESE BEAUTIFUL MUSEUM PIECES LOOKED SO PERFECT THAT WE HAD TO REINSPECT AND RE-EXAMINE THEM A FEW TIMES TO MAKE SURE THEY OUR EYES ARE NOT DECEIVING US.

Although the Gravity Adjusters Expansion Band (GAEB) started in 1967, they remain one of the long-lost and underestimated groups that explored the areas of sound sculpture, improvisation, experimental music and free jazz. The group have their roots in playing in and around the San Francisco Bay Area, and finally recorded their first LP in Los Angeles. Free jazz drummer Lee Charlton seamlessly shifts the moods from jazzy phrasing into the far more abstracted ideas of the world of sound sculpture. It is this abstract world where the GAEB mostly reside, using the invented instruments of multi-media artist Richard Waters, many of whose percussive and bowed instruments incorporate water-filled resonators to bend and tune the sound. Although many other improvisers at the time like AMM, MEV, Sonde and Taj Mahal Travellers all made extensive use of home-made and adapted instruments, the GAEB are a very different concern with their own unmistakable identity. Their first LP One appeared in 1973 on Nocturne Records, a small Californian label. It was the first of their two LPs, the second appearing some eight years later.

The instruments used were: Diatonic Sound Generator, Bazooki, Pipe Drums, Aeolian Space Horn, Synthesizer, Waterphones, Mytar, Saws, Bass Violin, Horizontal and Upright Phoniums, Bird Calls, Microtonal Revolving Sound Generator, Sgourd, Superball Mallets, Watergong Drums, Log Drums, Springs, Keyboards, Assorted Gourds, Princess Oil Can, and others. About the G.A.E.B.: The G.A.E.B. had its begginings in the late 60's. It emerged as a music ensemble simultaneously with the experimental sculptural instrumental creations of designer Richard Waters. Although some individual instruments may have been heard by the general public on L.P.s, T.V.Dramas and in Movies. This will be the first time a complete sound journey has been taken(during which time many of the instruments may be heard simultaneously) and played by foundation members of the G.A.E.B. Some musicians already exposed to these original instruments are: Lalo Schifrin, Roger Kellaway, Shelley Manne, Emil Richards, Dave Grusin, The Grateful Dead. The G.A.E.B. is basically an organic music ensemble. However, any instrument(traditional) or, for that matter, any sound producing object(which includes electronics) could be considered valid withing the open ended musical framework of any G.A.E.B. composition."

(b)            The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
