Widely hailed as one of the first hip-hop supergroups and a blueprint for horrorcore, Gravediggaz formed in 1991 around the nexus of Prince Paul's increasingly gothic beats and RZA, Gatekeeper, RNS and Mr. Sime taking aim at the music industry. Taking on satirical and macabre lyrical themes, this is the sound of some of hip-hop's true heavyweights digging their heels in making a record purposefully made to disrupt and disturb. That doesn't dilute how dope the record is - this is Prince Paul on the buttons after all - and even if its impoact in 1994 was more on those in the know rather than the mainstream, in hindsight everybody knows this is a true classic in the history of hip-hop.
