As the affectionate liner notes indicate, the Dead had just finished recording BLUES FOR ALLAH, and they had just launched Grateful Dead Records, so, with much to celebrate, they decided to play a show.The evening begins with a palpable sense of electricity. Legendary impresario Bill Graham introduces the band and the Dead kick into "Help on the Way" and the song cycle that begins BLUES FOR ALLAH. The tunes capture the different elements of the band at work.
