For My Youtube Video of this album (Please Click Below) Music Track ''Snails" (Actual Recording From The Vinyl)

Another from my personal collection, perchased from new in 1972 (unbelievable, over 40 years ago) Initially only ever played to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the cover and sleeve for protection! This is how I have always stored my records! I love this album.  This is a very, very rare and scarce album to find by the very obscure Prog rock group Gnigrolog, Their debut lp 1st UK pressing on RCA labels! It is very King Crimson/Gentle Giant/Jethro Tull orientated in my opinion. What makes this very scarce album so rare is.. The vinyl has obviously only ever been played a handful of times ever from new! Visually there is the odd very light scuff surface marks only to be seen if really looked at in harsh light but have very little if no real effect in general, on the absolutely stunning audio quality through out! The original RCA UK printed fully textured gatefold is also in exceptional condition throughjout (see photos)! I can not over emphisize enough at how rare and scarce this album is to ever find like this!

In Spite of Harry's Toenail is the debut studio album of the British progressive rock band, Gnidrolog. The album was recorded in the London De Lane Lea Studios in 1972 and released that same year. A re-issue was released in 1999, including previously unreleased material, recorded by the band in 1969. The band, while resembling other progressive bands of the time, such The Van der Graaf Generator, have also created their unique sound in this album, primarily due to the absence of a keyboard. Gnidrolog was a British progressive rock band, with a sound that was compared to better known bands such as Van der Graaf Generator, Jethro Tull and Gentle Giant!

The band was founded in 1969 by twin brothers Colin and Stewart Goldring, who were joined by drummer Nigel Pegrum from Spice (the band that would later evolve into Uriah Heep), Peter "Mars" Cowling on bass, John Earle on vocals, and Charlotte Fendrich on piano!

They came up with the strange band name by reversing and slightly rearranging the brothers' surname. In May 1972, the British music magazine NME reported that Gnidrolog was to appear at the Great Western Express Lincoln Festival on 26 May that year. Other acts to perform in the Giants of Tomorrow marquee included Budgie, Skin Alley, Tea & Sympathy, John Martyn, and Warhorse.

In 1972, Gnidrolog released both their first and second albums, In Spite of Harry's Toe-Nail and Lady Lake, before disbanding due to a lack of commercial success. Despite having played gigs with fairly well known bands such as Colosseum, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Wishbone Ash, Soft Machine, and Magma in their brief career, they have always remained relatively obscure!

Cowling began working with Pat Travers in 1975, and was able to achieve a respectable amount of success during his long relationship with Travers. After disbanding, Nigel Pegrum joined Steeleye Span, while the Goldring brothers formed the punk rock band the Pork Dukes in 1976, and later went on to do session work, as did other members.

After a break of twenty seven years they got back together in 1999, and released their third studio album entitled Gnosis in 2000.

The Vinyl

This is the original thick heavy and chunky original slab of vinyl (only found like this on the original pressings) The vinyl lays flat on the turntable and is free of any warping! On initial inspection this vinyl looks like new, still retaining its original sheen from new. Only if looked at harshly in strong light could possibly any very light surface scuffs , mainly sleeve removal type marks be seen! These have very little if no effect on the absolutely stunning top top audio quality through out! At least there is no marks that would cause any nasty loud constant clicks or pops that I heard.

The Audio Quality.

The first thing to note is that as soon as the needle hits the playing surface it is obvious that this vinyl has barely ever been played at all! (no more than a hand ful of times by me only) The audio is stunning,, cristal clear and very vibrant through out. Please note! Any who know this album would know that there are many very quiet passages during the play of this album very much like the early King Crimson albums, so please allow for the odd minor static /ticks that perhapes may be heard during the odd isolated passages only. Having said that I have played the vinyl two times prior to this list at very loud volume on a top system, and I can only really note one slight isolated place on side two that caused very light static type scuff/ ticks only at the intro to the track in spite of Harrys Toenail but I must stress that these were not loud clicks or pops and were soon forgotton in my opinion. I have tried to see what caused this but I find it difficult to see anything at all this could be a slight pressing fault? Either way the main audio is truly exceptional in my opinion! Side 1. Audio graded Near as perfect! Side 2 Audio graded Excellent plus to near mint (slight interference in one isolated place only)! I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to near mint for the most part!

Please also note! I always add this disclaimer! This vinyl has been laying dormant in a case for over 40 years and a build up of dirt and dust in the grooves over the years causes static ticks! I recommend a constant clean before each play! This would reduce static interfearence and enhance the audio! Points to note! I could see debrit on the playing surface after play , indicating that this still needs cleaning.

The Labels

These are the original orange RCA labels! in near as perfect condition! These obviously indicate that this vinyl has barely ever been played in my opinion! You would struggle to see barely a handful of spider marks at the spindle hole! little if no spindle ware the hole is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeve.

This is a plain white sleeve. Light creasing staining with age no splits or tares!

The Cover

This is the original RCA Fully Textured Gate fold sleeve! In stunning condition no splits or tares and amaizingly  no creases to talk of either! There is just very light storage ware at the rear to mention in one place there is a slight dark scuff mark only (see photos) All text is legible! Strong and straight as it should be this must grade at least excellent if not much better in my opinion!
