I am thinning out my film music collection selling scores I also have on CD, or duplicates of my vinyl collection.  I've been a collector for more than 50 years and most of what I am selling are original purchases--either as new or from used record stores.  Most are in VG or better condition.

Shipping and handling in the U.S. is $4.00 but each additional record is just 50 cents more when combined in one mailing.

THIS AUCTION:

This is the 33rpm vinyl soundtrack of music from the film "Glory" with music composed and conducted by JAMES HORNER.  It's on Virgin Movie Music, number 91329-4.  The disc looks NM and the jacket does too.  My habit has always been to slit the opening in a jacket with a knife and keep the shrink wrap on to protect the jacket pictures.  Such is the case here.  If the picture looks odd it's probably reflection from the wrap. 

RECORD GRADING:

For vinyl I visually inspect a record, and if there are scratches I play grade it.  Often even long scratches are on the surface of the grooves only and don't affect the sound, but I check anyway. 

MINT / SEALED: Must be absolutely perfect and unplayed with the shrink wrap still sealed.

NM: Out of the jacket but looks unplayed.  No visual marks other than fingerprints. 

VERY GOOD: A minimum of visual or audible imperfections, which should not detract much from your enjoyment of owning them.  Vinyl surface noise and some minor pops and clicks.

GOOD: The item is good enough to fill a gap in your collection until a better copy becomes available.  It will show definite signs of wear and tear, but records in good condition should play all the way through without skipping. 

If you want a number scale, think of MINT as 10, NM as 9, VG as 8, VG- as 7, G+ as 6, and G as 5.  I do not usually sell records below a 6.5 (VG-/G+) unless they are rare and collectable.

I am offering these to my fellow collectors in Canada and the U.K. since there are many film music collectors there.  I am sorry for the high rates, but postal costs continue to rise, and my fees just cover my costs.  See below.

MOVIE SOUNDTRACKS versus MOVIE STUDIOTRACKS:

In order to be a "soundtrack" release the music must be the same recording used on the film's soundtrack and heard by audiences in the theaters.  If it is another recording, done in a studio for commercial release and not the version used on the film's soundtrack, it is a "studiotrack." 

Many fine recordings are studiotracks.  My personal favorite version of "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is the Ray Heindorf studiotrack released in the 1950s.  But I will never call it a soundtrack.  It isn't. 

I am careful to accurately describe my listings and will not misrepresent the recordings because I am a serious collector.  Most sellers don't make the distinction.  Many "Music from . . ." albums are called soundtracks when they are not.  If it doesn't say "soundtrack" on the record it probably isn't.  The correct method, when unsure, is to call it a Film Score.

There are packaging COSTS such as boxes, packing, tape, and labeling. There are also FEES eBay and PayPal charge in addition to those for the purchase itself: Final Value FEES for shipping costs, and collection FEES for taking your payment at PayPal. If you want a breakdown on all the costs involved on shipping fees for any item please feel free to contact me, but as a rule of thumb total shipping costs are about double the postage cost. CANADIAN BUYERS READ: Shipments to Canada would be by First Class International if the item is under four pounds, or Priority Airmail if it is heavier. My costs are much higher than just postage differences since the postal carrier won't pick them up. I have to make a trip to the post office, so the costs include gasoline and time spent filling out forms and standing in line at the post office for international mailings.

NOTE: although I accept returns, understand that there is a current problem on ebay of people buying items and then returning substituted, broken, or inferior duplicates in place of the ones they bought and asking for a refund. RECORD GRADING & RECORDING Back to Top RECORD GRADING: For VINYL albums I grade mostly by sight, but play grade most 45s and 78s. I use Jerry Osborne's grading system shown in his "Official Price" Guides. "MINT: Must be absolutely perfect and unplayed. VERY GOOD: A minimum of visual or audible imperfections, which should not detract much from your enjoyment of owning them. GOOD: The item is good enough to fill a gap in your collection until a better copy becomes available. It will show definite signs of wear and tear, but records in good condition should play all the way through without skipping." Grades of "+" or "-" fall in between these categories. A grade of VG- or G+ indicate it's somewhere in between the two levels. A grade of G+ would indicate it is enjoyable with surface noise, and a grade of VG- would mean enjoyable, noticeable surface noise, but not as bad. GENERALLY, I use VG-/G+ to indicate an "average" sounding used record. For 78 RPM RECORD grading I use the same basic formula described above but I accept there will be more surface noise than with vinyl. In general, I judge two things: energy level and clarity of the recording, and surface noise. Therefore, a VG Victrola record will have good energy, clear sound, yet surface noise inherent in that format. The highest grade I give used 78rpm records is VG+ since there will always be surface noise even if it looks unplayed. A Victrola grade G would be enjoyable but have a lot of surface noise, low energy level, or partial distortion. Most 78s fall between G and VG (G, G+, VG-/G+, VG-, VG). NOTE: with ACOUSTIC 78s made before 1930, known as VICTROLA records, they can t be accurately judged by just looking at them. I often find some that look trashed, but when played on a Victrola they sound pretty good. That's why I try to play-grade all of them. I use a Victor Granada Orthophonic player from 1926 with steel needles. To play-grade later 78s made from 1930 to 1959 I use a 1960s three-speed turntable with a ceramic cartridge piped through a professional Gemini mixer and studio grade Alesis monitors. I now buy my steel needles from eBayer cyber_tigger, Walt Sommers. He has the BEST needles I have ever used. Go by his guidelines on how to use them and you'll get the most out of your old windup machine.
