GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : Gil Mellé è stato un ottimo sassofonista jazz e un compositore di colonne sonore basate su musica elettronica con apparecchiature particolarissime da lui stesso fabbricate e suonate. Sicuramente c'è un'ispirazione alla musica concreta di Shaeffer ed al concetto di manipolazione di suoni già esistenti in natura tramite l’elettronica. Così nell'album di tanto in tanto possiamo ascoltare strani rumori, come quello del treno o di una sega circolare, distorti ed elettronizzati dal musicista. Le tracce partono tutte da un andamento lento che alcune mantengono per la loro intera durata mentre altre hanno un aumento d’intensità ritmica. I suoni sono spesso ripetitivi, quasi ossessionanti per meglio riflettere la trama del film. Senza ombra di dubbio siamo di fronte ad un importante documento per la storia della musica e ad un'esperienza particolarissima e bella d'ascolto.

I titoli degli otto brani possono esser letti guardando i due lati dell’etichetta raffigurati nelle scansioni n° 3 e 4.

Notes : Gill Mellé was a great jazz saxophonist and a composer of soundtracks based on electronic music with very special devices manufactured and played by himself. Certainly there is an inspiration to the concrete music of Schaeffer and the concept of manipulation of the already existing sounds in nature through the electronics. So in the album from time to time we can hear strange noises like the train or a circular saw distorted and electronicized by the musician. All the tracks start by a slow development that some retain for their entire duration while others have an increase in rhythmic intensity. The sounds are often repetitive, almost obsessive to better reflect the film's plot. Without a doubt we are faced with an important document for the music history and to a very special and beautiful experience of listening.

The titles of the eight tracks can be read looking at both sides of label depicted in the scans No. 3 and 4.
