This one is the first mono, flat edged, and deep-grooved pressing of Gil Melle's GIL MELLE' QUINTET/SEXTET. Featuring Clifford Brown. Blue Note Records BLP-5020. A heavy vinyl and flat rim version of 10 inches LP. This is an original issue from Blue Note Records, not a reissue version of Classic Records or Analog Production.
With "EAR" etched on the dead wax of both sides. No "R" and no "INC" on both sides. The records of Blue Note during this time were not recorded by Rudy Van Gelder, thus, there are no "RVG" etched on the dead wax of both sides. "RVG" will not appear in the dead wax until BLP-5043. Address on labels: "BLUE NOTE RECORDS 767 LEXINGTON AVE NYC".
The cover is also the 1st version cover designed by saxophonist Gel Melle' himself. With liner note and no address on the back cover.
Artists on Side 1: Gil Melle' (tenor saxophone), X. Kentonite (trombone), Tal Farlow (guitar), Clyde Lombardi (bass), Joe Morello (drums).
Artists on Side 2: Gil Melle' (tenor saxophone), Joe Manning (vibe), George Wallington (piano), Red Mitchell (bass), Eddie Bert (trombone), Max Roach (drums), Monica Dell (vocal).
The vinyl plays NM- on both sides. It still looks bright and shinny under the bright light with no scratch at all.
The cover is NM-. Strong, no split, but have just small sticker on the upper left. Paper turned brown due to age on back. Otherwise, nice.
The record is play graded as well as visually. I attempt to grade conservatively, listing all significant flaws.
My grading is as follows: M (perfectly like new), NM, NM-/VG++, VG+, VG, VG-, G, G-. You will be satisfied. And I will accept a free return. Please bid with confidence.
