Only 500 numbered copies. Cut from the analog master tapes by Stan Ricker. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Pallas in Germany. Romanian music at its absolute best!

This amazing disc has been cut by Stan Ricker in half-speed from the original analog master tapes. Stan said: "It was the quietest test I'd ever heard!!!!! I most definitely feel this is my prize mastering after all these years, except for my direct-to-disk recordings in about 1978. It's just amazing how much was captured on the recording, and how just totally musical it is. Catherine (Cellier) did a marvelous job! - and the Nagra is a first-class machine. What a good balance Mrs. Cellier got on her tape!!!!! This recording is a perfect example of music with a wider dynamic range than any consumer medium can contain."

This is a live recording taken from a tour made by Cellier (organ) and Zamfir (panflute) in February 1977 in Australia using only two Neumann KM74 mics and a Nagra 4S recorder. This is the very first audiophile version of this disc. Originally produced by Disque Cellier in 1983 on LP and CD. This is a pure analog recording. No noise reduction, equalization, compression or limiting of any sort was used in this recording.

Cellier and Zamfir became very famous in mid '70s after a few good discs and above all for the theme of a very famous Film titled "Picnic at Hanging Rock". For this in 1977 they made a series of concerts in Australia, from which this title was born.

Live/Direct Recorded in Australia - 1977. Gatefold cover features spectacular photos of Australia. Half-Speed Mastering by Stan Ricker at SRM, Ridgecrest, California. This is a pure analog recording. No noise reduction, equalization, compression nor limiting of any sort was used in recording this record. Mastering was done from the original analog master tapes.

Der rumänische Panflötist Gheorghe Zamfir hat seine musikalische Karriere hauptsächlich dem Schweizer Ethnomusikforscher und Organist Marcel Cellier zu verdanken, der ihn im Rahmen umfassender Forschungsarbeiten auf dem Gebiet der rumänischen Volksmusik entdeckte. Bereits zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts haben große Komponisten wie Bela Bartok, Zoltan Kodaly, Maurice Ravel, Carl Orff oder Igor Strawinski sich mit den musikalischen Wurzeln ethnischer Musik beschäftigt und diese Erfahrungen in ihre eigenen Werke einfließen lassen. Der rumänischen Volksmusik setzte Bartok mit seiner intensiven Forschung ein einzigartiges Denkmal, das auch Cellier und Zamfir in ihrer Zusammenarbeit inspiriert hat. Die gemeinsame Arbeit hat außergewöhnliche Aufnahmen hervorgebracht, es entstand die Serie „Flute de Pan et Orgue“, in deren Rahmen dieser Mitschnitt entstanden ist. Vorbild für das Arrangement der traditionellen rumänischen Folklorethemen ist die monodische Praxis, welche in der Volksmusik üblich war. Celliers dezente Orgelbegleitung beschränkt sich hauptsächlich auf die Harmonisierung und die Bildung eines Orgelpunkts, über den Zamfir in freiem melodischen Spiel und in zahlreichen Improvisationsabschnitten brilliert und in sein herausragendes Können auf der Panflöte präsentiert. Der schwebende Klang beider Instrumente harmoniert hervorragend, es entsteht ein reizvoller Kontrast zwischen dem vollen, mächtigen Klang der tiefen Orgel und dem feinen, klaren Melodiespiel der hohen Panflöte. Genießen Sie u.a. „Doina din jebel“, „Doina oltului“, „Balada Sarpelui“ und „Doina de jale (doina dadieux)“. Sie werden von dieser ungewöhnlichen Instrumentenkombination überrascht und von der hervorragenden Klangqualiät der Liveaufnahme fasziniert sein.
