Vinyl:  VG++  Play Graded.  Sounds Great!  Has some marks that don't affect the sound quality.  Apple Photo Labels are Clean and Bright.  This is the Original 1970 Apple Triple LP 1ST Pressing!  STCH 639. This is the audiophile acclaimed pressing, pressed at Capitol's Los Angeles, CA Pressing Plant!  George's Magnum Opus.  Surprising everyone when it came out, especially considering the quality of material he had had under wraps while still a Beatle.  Arguably the very best Solo effort by a Beatle, to this day.  Absolutely George's very Finest.  Helping George out we have Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Delaney & Bonnie's Band, Dave Mason, Badfinger and many others!  Hear the beginning of the Derek & The Dominos' Sound in the extra bonus "Apple Jam" sides!  One of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time!!  allmusic gives it 5 stars!!

Cover: VG++  (see photos)   Includes the Poster which is in beautiful condition.  Includes the 3 photo/lyric/credits sleeves, all in nice condition.  All three have a small piece of clear tape about an inch or two long at their center bottoms.  The artwork and text is all bright and clear. The box cover, which was originally "hinged" is neatly cut, separating the box into two halves.  It still comes together perfectly well.  The corners on the front half of the box cover are worn and have splits.  The top edge has some wear and part of the top edge is worn off.  There's some tape remnants at the top two corners.  The corners of the back half of the box cover has intact corners, with minimal wear.  Sticker remnant on front cover.  No writing.  Spine print is crystal clear.

All records are packaged securely with the vinyl outside the jacket (to avoid seam split in transit). For this one, I'll put bubble wrap inside the box to protect the contents/wedding gifts, etc., and put the record outside the box, and place it and its cover on top of the box, wrapped in bubble wrap in such a way as to eliminate any possible corner splitting of the box. The vinyl and box, ultimately, will be sandwiched between two cardboard stiffeners and shipped in a custom cardboard record mailer box. I get compliments on my packaging.

Why buy a first or early pressing and not a re-issue or a ‘re-mastered’ vinyl album?  First and early pressings are pressed from the first generation lacquers and stampers. They usually sound vastly superior to later issues/re-issues (which, in recent times, are often pressed from whatever 'best' tapes or digital sources are currently available) - many so-called 'audiophile' new 180g pressings are cut from hi-res digital sources…essentially an expensive CD pressed on vinyl.  Why  experience the worse elements of both formats?  These are just High Maintenance CDs, with mid-ranges so cloaked with a veil as to sound smeared.  They are nearly always compressed with murky transients and a general lifelessness in the overall sound.  There are exceptions where re-masters/re-presses outshine the original issues, but they are exceptions and not the norm.  First or early pressings nearly always have more immediacy, presence and dynamics. The sound staging is wider.  Subtle instrument nuances are better placed with more spacious textures. Balances are firmer in the bottom end with a far-tighter bass. Upper-mid ranges shine without harshness, and the overall depth is more immersive.  Inner details are  clearer.   On first and early pressings, the music tends to sound more ‘alive’ and vibrant.  The physics of sound energy is hard to clarify and write about from a listening perspective, but the best we can describe it is to say that you can 'hear' what the mixing and mastering engineers wanted you to hear when they first recorded the music.

Without a doubt, George Harrison's first solo recording, originally issued as a triple album, is his best. Drawing on his backlog of unused compositions from the late Beatles era, Harrison crafted material that managed the rare feat of conveying spiritual mysticism without sacrificing his gifts for melody and grand, sweeping arrangements. Enhanced by Phil Spector's lush orchestral production and Harrison's own superb slide guitar, nearly every song is excellent: "Awaiting on You All," "Beware of Darkness," the Dylan collaboration "I'd Have You Anytime," "Isn't It a Pity," and the hit singles "My Sweet Lord" and "What Is Life" are just a few of the highlights. A very moving work, with a slight flaw: the jams that comprise the final third of the album are somewhat dispensable, and have probably only been played once or twice by most of the listeners who own this record. Those same jams, however, played by Eric Clapton, Carl Radle, Bobby Whitlock, and Jim Gordon (all of whom had just come off of touring as part of Delaney & Bonnie's band), proved to be of immense musical importance, precipitating the formation of Derek & the Dominos. Thus, they weren't a total dead end, and may actually be much more to the liking of the latter band's fans.
