INCREDIBLE ALBUM from this UK progressive rock institution - arguably their most complex release with unique twists and turns and an attitude that belies the nature of their music. By this point they had of course developed a sizable following both at home and abroad but, conversally, there was absolutely no sign of them invading the mass concious ala Genesis, Jethro Tull or Pink Floyd. The simple explanation for this was that GG refused to compromise their musical ambitions, forgoing the yankee dollar for a life in the slow lane playing to a converted but vocal fan base or college graduates and loner-misfits. No girlfriends please.
'In A Glass House' is a forceful advancement of their masterplan. The time signatures are encouragingly difficult, the playing wildly inventive and the arrangements over ambitious - but never too ambitious to replicate in concert. 'The Runaway' and 'An Inmates Lullaby' are prime time Giant - majestic and insanely communicative on a level that few understand.
So hard to find these in anywhere near decent shape as the cover is so fragile - this one is superb.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
Pressing: WWA, UK, 1973
Vinyl: Nice clean condition. No spindle marks just a few scuffs not affecting play only visible under a bright light caused mainly from sliding in and out of the inner sleeve. Grades as top, nr archive, MINT-!
Cover: Only the very faintest signs of use. Issued in a delightful textured and diecut cover with plastic window effect. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear and no creases. A small amount of wear along bottom edge visible when looked at from the rear. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 43 years after release. Grades as a very strong MINT-!
