Greetings vinyl lovers and welcome to how record sales on e-bay should be done; both pre and post sale. The mound of detail contained within this listing is intended to inform and assist you in deciding if, a.) this is the copy of the record you’ve been searching for and b.) I’m the person you wish to buy it from. Buying vinyl records on e-bay can be a little “hit and miss”, however, you need not worry here! It is my mission to purely deal in either pristine, “Modern Classics” (as categorised in my shop listing) dating from the 80’s onward, or, items such as this, which are mainly rare, “book-valued” items dating back to the 50’s. All will be served-up as efficiently as possible, thus encouraging repeat business amongst my splendid and loyal customers… just check all that glowing feedback!

I grade to a strict Record Collector grading system, as it’s simply not in my best interests not to! Please take it for granted that these items are precisely as detailed below, with NO clicks, skips or pops here or in ANY of my listings, unless clearly graded and itemized as such below. However, I should also state that I only list lovely items, with all others going straight to the local charity shops.

If it says “mint”, it means “mint”!

Pre-Sale: The vinyl is re-housed in a brand-new polly-lined paper inner sleeve (plain paper for the 7’s) and the original pic/lyric bag, obviously, retained. Once highly scrutinized, both physically and with a play through, it’s then appointed a grading, photographed and the whole thing then carefully stored in a brand-new outer sleeve.

Post-sale: All items are re-inspected and the vinyl re-housed along with the cover in the outer polly-sleeve, to ensure the safest approach to shipping, i.e. not allowing the vinyl to cut through the outer sleeve whilst in transport. It’s then bundled in the BEST and most CAREFULLY wrapped packaging you’ll see this or the other side of Xmas, so you receive the gem you won in the same awesome condition as when it’s SWIFTLY dispatched after payment’s cleared.

The vast majority of my listed items are book-valued well in-to double or even, treble figures on occasion, but having built a keen customer base, I start most listings at a “sporting” price, being confident they’ll achieve the correct value eventually! Some, seriously rare items will be started at a higher price, as I don’t use reserves (pointless things!), generally a quarter or a third of the given “book-value”, and the “Modern Classics” also having a BIN.

Some of these records may well be the ONLY copy being offered on the bay; some, one of dozens… the difference is that this one will not only be one of, if not the BEST, but I also do everything possible to ensure it gets to YOU both quickly and in the same superb condition!

Introduction and MacLizardking’s Initial Review: Here’s a rare bird indeed… it’s a VERY early issue of the classic Trespass that still sounds superb, but is also on the ORIGINAL ISSUE, PINK Famous Charisma labels!!! It must be said that the original, textured 1st issue sleeve (COMPLETE WITH lyric insert!) has got some heavy ware on the edges and has been graded as such, HOWEVER, as I’m sitting here, listening to the fantastic vinyl, it really does still reproduce very well, with nothing more than the lightest hint of sibilance in places. – full details below. So, the sleeve’s a bit buggered, but the vinyl’s simply grand, hence MORE than sporting LOW, LOW start price for this rare gem. I will detail all the faults below (as ever) but must state this is NOT MINT! Probably one for a completist who wants a perfectly playable (if NOT perfect) original issue of this Prog classic in their collection. Now, please read on for the full, glorious details…

Detailed Cover & Inner-sleeve Review.

Specific cover grading: G

Comment: A relatively harsh grading, with defects detailed as follows. 1st issue, thick spine E.J. Day gatefold.

Front: Slightly discoloured, with a nasty patch of (I guess) tag damage on top left corner.

Back: As front, bar tag damage, see photos of both below.

Edges & Corners: All are in good shape, but all have consistent ware on seams and rounding to corners.

Spine: Good shape, but with ware on edges, much heavier (to point of splitting) at top.

Inner-sleeve: Original paper-slip, now with new polly-liner.

Extras: Includes original RARE lyric liner with nothing more than light creasing to lower edge.

“Record Collector Sleeve Gradings Explained;

M (Mint) : “The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition”

NM (Near Mint) : As M, but also as “Sod’s Law” occasionally dictates, with one miniscule physical flaw, that has no effect on the overall quality of the item, yet means it’s no longer “perfect”; i.e. a solitary tiny rub-mark or dink.

M- (Mint Minus) : A notch below NM, but indicating a cover that’s still in fantastic condition, though it‘s just possible to see it’s been slid carefully in and out of a collection over the years; i.e. miniscule speckled, lower edge ware, the odd tiny, tiny stress crease or utter whisper of fuzzing to extremities of the corner tips.

EX (Excellent): “The cover and packaging might have minor ware and/or creasing”

VG (Very Good) : “Normal ware and tare on the cover and extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable”

G (Good) : “The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc”.

F (Fair) : “The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced”.

P (Poor) : “The cover or contents will be badly damaged or partly missing”.

Detailed Vinyl/s & Labels Review.

Specific Vinyl grading: EX

Visual: Still GLEAMING, mirror-like vinyl, with NOTHING but lightest paper-marks and certainly NOTHING like a genuine scratch or dig (or I wouldn’t list it) just the VERY odd hairline surface mark.

Audio: Have to say, I was REALLY amazed listening to this beauty! There’s NOTHING on the play in’s and only the VERY occasioned miniscule background tick or whisper of sibilance to be detected in a few of the really quiet pieces. Aurally, I’d give this a M-, but have to allow for the really light surface marks.

Labels: Near PERFECT pink Charisma original issue labels… hence this is SUCH an important listing!

“Record Collector Vinyl Gradings Explained;

M (Mint) : “The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.”

NM (Near Mint) : As above, but, as “Sod’s Law” occasionally dictates, with one miniscule physical flaw, as detailed above, that has no effect on the overall quality of the item, yet means it’s no longer “perfect”; i.e. a solitary spindle-mark or blush, but still aurally perfect.

M- (Mint Minus) : A truly beautiful, gleaming vinyl, that it’s just possible to spot that it’s been played before. Possibly the lightest of paper-marks on the physical or even a whisper of crackle on the play-in’s alone, but still practical perfection on the aural.

EX (Excellent) : “The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality”

VG (Very Good) : “The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch”

G (Good) : “The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches”

F (Fair) : “The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump”.

P (Poor) : “The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc”.

B (Bad) : “The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler”.

Postage & Packaging Charges and Payment Method Preferences:

Having been on the receiving end of some truly abysmal packaging, all lp’s from my organisation are dispatched in top quality, bought-in for the job cruciform record mailers, at least a pair of stiffeners (more for multiples) with additional gaffer-tape protection on the edges and some pretty leery "Fragile" tape to alert the sleepiest of Postie. All charges listed below are inclusive of postage & (most importantly) packaging costs, not home-made, cut-up boxes or envelope mailers that are superb for 7’s with stiffeners, but result in killed corners on lp’s! Yes, I do charge slightly more than some for P&P, but you receive significantly more; including a record in the same state as when it was dispatched! To verify all this manic attention to detail, please do take a gander at the feedback my buyers are both cool and kind enough to leave.

Solo 12” LP Record: UK = £3.00, Europe = £4.00, Rest of World = £6.00

For additional 12’s, double or triple disc sets, please add the following cost per disc, up to a maximum of 5 discs per package.

UK + £1.00, Europe + £2.00, Rest of World + £3.00

7” Singles

Solo 7”: UK = £1.50, Europe = £2.50, Rest of World = £3.50

For additional 7’s, please add the following cost per disc, up to a maximum of six discs per package.

UK & Europe + £0.50, Rest of World + £1.00

A NOTE TO MY FAB OVERSEAS BUYERS: Please note that it is no more than 5 lp discs per package, or it’s the “International Parcel Service”, and I won’t use their services as a.) it’s more expensive that separate Air Mail packages, b.) LP’s are always damaged and/or crushed by the heavy boxes they’re shipped with and c.) it takes ages and ages!

Registration and Insurance of Packages Valued OVER £30:00:

All packages with a content value in excess of £30:00 must be registered. Beyond that, all invoices will offer the option of registration, providing both a tracking number and up to £30.00 compensation should something go awry. These fees, on packages valued less than £30, are optional, but are offered on all sales invoices as standard, it is your choice as to whether or not to take up this additional cover.

“Signed For Service” UK = £1.00 per package. Europe & Rest of The World = £3.50 per package.

Once dispatched, all items are the responsibility of the Buyer, though if the item was registered I will obviously assist in the tracking of any item that goes missing or is damaged.

Payment Methods:

PayPal is the primo method of choice for either UK or overseas buyers. Within the UK and as long as you can handle the wait, personal cheques or postal orders are also acceptable. For overseas buyers PayPal is again the first choice,  but cash (GBP, USD or Euros) is okay, though ONLY if it is registered; cash is too easily stolen!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: I’m truly sorry, but packages to be sent to first time buyers with UNCONFIRMED PayPal addresses need to be registered. If you do not want to pay for this, please confirm your details to PayPal! All payments sent from unconfirmed addresses, without package registration fees having being paid will be reinvoiced. Really, really sorry about this, but blame the “bad guys”…

Please note, these are the charges - they are non-negotiable; particularly post-auction! If you think they’re unreasonable, please, do not bid. I know what my costs and overheads are and, with all due respect to first time MacLizardking customers who have yet to enjoy the experience (read that feedback folks!), you do not!

Non-payers, hagglers or general time-wasting losers, will have feedback updated and be barred from all future auctions - I do try to keep this all friendly and light, but I’m discovering there are some real dick-heads out there amongst the rest of you fabulous, genuine punters!

Should things go “boink”…

The standard rules apply to refunds – i.e. if you’re not happy with the condition of the item in comparison with the description, neither am I. So, on receipt of the goods in the original packaging and in the same condition as when dispatched, a full refund will be made of your original payment – the cost of your return postage being traded off against my listing fees.

And finally…

Whilst this may all appear slightly excessive on the detail front, I do go to great lengths to ensure the accuracy of these listings and promote “service” and “honesty” as treasured commodities as, on occasion, I have found them to be lacking in (one or two) others with which I have dealt on e-bay - But NOT here! I feel I should also add that I have been professionally involved in either the music or entertainment industry for the last 20 years and as a fan of all genre’s of music since year “dot” – in my case, the mid 60’s – what a decade, wish I was old enough to remember it!

Hi there all (espically those who've bid thus far)

I took this gem home with me at the weekend, to enjoy a full play through of how this awesome lp was intended to sound, and have to update this item on both the positive and negative fronts. At first, I was TRULY amazed at just how good this pressing sounds on a top end system, really sublime.... HOWEVER, I've detected a problem that is NOT in the detail above, as, during the middle section of "Stagnation" there is a light, but repetitive background tick, just noticeable during the quiet section, which, to be honest would pass muster alone, BUT there are also two, genuinely heavy clicks. I can't apologise enough for not noticing these defects during my initial review, and MUST assure you that this is the FIRST time such a glitch has occurred. I pride myself on the accuracy of my listings, and will, therefore either happily negotiate on this item post auction close, or simply cancel the sale if you have already bid and are unhappy with this situation. I am not a rip off merchant and again wish to assure you that the vast majority of this awesome, rare pressing sounds superb - particularly when compared with later re-pressings, as was my goal on Sunday - but has got this scratch as detailed above.
