Genesis : Trespass A2 / B2 1st Press on Pink Scroll Charisma Label

This first pressing on the famous Pink Scroll Charisma label is a FINAL UPGRADE time warp classic of that I have no doubt.  The clarity, depth and power on both sides is stunning and there is barely any interference.  Just one static click and 3/4 very light ticks that is all.  This is an LP that has been so well preserved down the years and has reassuringly hardly ever been played judging by the audio and that there is hardly any spindle wear.  This is further backed up by its stunning visual quality and at first glance you would think it was 'as new' it is that impressive!

The textured cover is also in superb condition with no obvious wear and it includes the lyric sheet which is also near perfect.  The original inner has only very minor creasing.

Visual grading

It doesn't get much better than this!  This vinyl is in beautiful condition with no marks or scratches and it still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen the likes of which you generally see on a new vinyl not one that is over 50 years old!  I can only detect a very small number of faint sleeve removal hairlines on each side and they really are not that easy to locate!  There is no groove wear and the run out grooves are also super clean.  The labels have no marking or writing and there is barely any spindle wear.  This is visually stunning to say the least!

Play grading

On a 50+ year old record you would not be surprised if the opening grooves had some static or crackle and yet the first verse on 'Looking For Someone' plays with unbelievable clarity - there is just no 'background' at all.  It continues to play with a quality that defies its age and with exceptional clarity and definition.  The powerful mid section is 'as new' and the following quiet section just has the one static click but no other 'background' i.e. no underlying static.  The remainder of this classic opening track plays to perfection and I just have to say the closing section is absolutely stunning!  You can imagine yourself back in 1970 listening this!  This would be Mint- but for that one millisecond of interference so Near Mint it will have to be but suffice to say this is more than likely the most impressive version I have ever heard.  What a start!

With complete silence in the dead wax the super quiet intro on 'White Mountain' is as close to perfect as could be with only one very light tick in the background.  The first verse is flawless and from then on plays a precision that only results from a vinyl that has been so well preserved down the years and only sparingly played.  I detected only two seconds of very light static and a couple of dust ticks but the audio is so impressive throughout.  When you find a vinyl as 'clean' as this each note seems sharper somehow, more defined you could say.  The clarity truly is stunning from start to finish.  There are two very gentle ticks at the beginning of the final section and then the 'humming' passage then plays with 'crystal clear' audio.  It can only be described 'as new'.  This is a superb Near Mint version but again the vast majority is even better than that!

The piano intro on 'Visions Of Angels' has not one single dust tick let alone anything more and the opening verses are equally as good.  The first chorus more than keeps up this standard and it continues to play with sensational audio.  The vocals are so clean and strong and the instrumental passages are just breathtaking!  The more up tempo sections play with wonderful accuracy and no distortion on the top end and this is very much in evidence on the closing section.  This very much deserves a Mint- grade and provides such a strong finish to a side that delivers on every level.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The intro on 'Stagnation' is so clean with barely any static and the first verse is just as good, another superb superb start!  The next section is so quiet and yet it plays beautifully with no obvious intrusion.  A couple of minor ticks that is all but clarity such as this on a 50+ year old record is very rare indeed.  The 'high octane' section that follows is just mind-blowing!  It could not play any better - sorry to over-enthuse somewhat but it's unavoidable with audio like this and me and Genesis go back many years!  The second verse continues this fine form with no intrusion - just a couple of dust ticks - and thereafter the quieter moments play with great precision and the louder sections with such power and depth.  The finale in particular is so strong and deep, it could not play any better.  I will grade as Near Mint but again the vast majority...

'Dusk' plays beautifully from the get go as does every verse and chorus.  The first chorus has a couple of light ticks towards the end but they are not intrusive and from then this is as close to perfect audio that you will find.  The clarity once again is so impressive and the sonic quality is as it was back in '70.  This is very much prevalent on the melodic chorus' lines which play with such precision and warmth.  Mint-

The intro on 'The Knife' is faultless and the first vocal the same.  The more this classic progresses the more I am impressed by the power and richness of sound.  I repeat it is so obvious this record has hardly been played, the playback is STUNNING!  The quiet mid section has no 'background' and I heard things here that I have never noticed before.  That is 100% truth by the way not just a selling technique!  It just shows how incredible the clarity is here.  If you're lucky enough to win this, listen very carefully and you might know what I mean!  As it builds the audio is 'as new' and Phillips' solo is so strong and has none of that sharpness of sound that you often find.  The 'high octane' is stunning and ends this classic album with no interference whatsoever.  No need for a minus here this track is MINT in every way!

In summary I am confident in saying this is a FINAL UPGRADE time warp classic.  This first pressing plays to a fantastic standard with barely any interference and the clarity is outstanding.  There is no underlying static and the fact that this has hardly been played means each note is so sharp and precise, I cannot praise the audio highly enough.  The clarity, definition and warmth of the audio on both sides is so impressive and let's be honest this sonic quality 'knocks spots' off the more recent reissues!  An exceptional album.

The Gatefold, Lyric Sheet & Inner Sleeve

The lightly textured E.J. Day cover is in lovely condition with barely any shelf wear, certainly nothing obvious!  The edges have hardly any rubbing and the wide spine is near perfect also.  All corners show hardly any signs of wear and the opening edge is pristine.  The front and back cover are immaculate with no marking or creasing and for once the largely white smooth interior has no marking/fading/creasing - just one very faint 'spot'.  There is also no damage to the inner spine - this cover really is in remarkable condition for over 50 years old.

The original lyric sheet is nigh on perfect with no marking etc and only a couple of very faint small creases.  The plain white die-cut inner has no side splits or marking and only minimal creasing.
