Up for sale here is a totally original 1st pressing of this classic LP, Selling England By The Pound.  What makes this one somewhat special is that it comes with the much rarer lyric inner sleeve, rather than the normal card insert. The other elements of the set are a true first pressing LP with A-1U B-2U matrix, and the correct E J Day pale yellow sleeve.
 
Gradings: -
 
Outer Sleeve: EX to EX+
 
The first press EJ Day sleeve is in EX condition. Although many would grade this slightly higher as it really is in fantastic condition.  This sleeve is often found with a lot of grubby marks and discolouration due to the predominantly pale-yellow colour.  This copy does have 3 or 4 small smudges of discolouration, mainly on the rear cover, but overall it is still a very clean sleeve.  There are no creases whatsoever and the edges and spine are all very clean and unworn. A very strong condition sleeve.   
 
Vinyl: EX+ Audio : Near Mint
 
The Vinyl is in EX+ condition. This is a superb copy. Heavyweight original vinyl weighing in at 151g.  There are just a very few very  feint light hairlines, so light that they are hard to see.  The disc has clearly been played just a handful of times.  There are 3 -4 small areas where the disc looks to have lost it’s shine. This has not been caused through abrasion or “bag rash” or improper storage, and I’ve seen this on a number of copies of this LP (And also Genesis Live released in the same year)  and I believe it just reflects a thinner lacquer  having been applied during manufacture.
 
Audio : Near Mint.  Quite simply it’s the best sounding copy of this LP that I’ve ever heard. It plays with just the absolute minimum of background noise and it’s difficult to imagine that this sounds any less in sound quality than on first listen. It’s just superb and I would say practically impossible to upgrade. There is no sound degradation caused by the areas where the lacquer is thinner. Brilliant, brilliant audio.

The Labels are in Near Mint condition – perfectly clean throughout with just one, maybe two, small spindle marks which are only visible under bright halogen light.
 
 
Lyric Inner Sleeve:  EX
 
The dark green inner sleeve is the much rarer insert found with this LP. It was made to actually house the LP rather than just a single card insert that came with the majority of copies. The inner sleeve is very clean with no significant damage. There is 1 (or 2 max). couple of really tiny creases at the edge and a small area of wear caused by the rim of LP at the bottom of each side, but the edges remain unworn and unsplit. Really clean example.
 
This LP also comes with a generic inner sleeve which dates from the 70’s.  This is a bit creased but still nice, and I would grade at EX-.
 
Overall this is a really superb original 1st pressing complete with lyric inner sleeve, and earliest matrix.  Copies this good are very rare nowadays.
 
 
Postage and Packing:
 
All records are placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping.  Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s. These mailers are a high-grade type which reinforce the edges around the LP and as such they are larger and weigh more than standard mailers.  My postage costs reflect the additional size and weight of the packaging that I use.
