GENESIS ~ Selling England By The Pound UK LP 1st Pressing  A-1U B-2U . Charisma CAS 1074.  Released 1974.
 
Here we have a nice original 1st pressing copy of Selling England By The Pound with A-1U B-2U matrix and low mother stampers.  It comes complete with it’s original dark green lyric insert made from thick card.   
 
Detailed Grading: -
 
Outer Sleeve: EX -
 
The sleeve is graded as being in EX minus condition.  It is generally quite nice overall apart from some general but minor discoloration (not brown spots or stains), a small area of wear on the top edge although the seam isn’t split, and a very small area on the front cover which has rubbed away in the sky area of the cover painting. All of the above points are minor individually and despite these the cover in well above average condition compared to most 1st pressings of this LP.
 
Vinyl: EX-
 
The vinyl is in generally nice condition overall and is graded Excellent minus with a light to moderate amount of light hairline marks and a couple which are slightly more visible but still not overly pronounced.  The vinyl retains it deep black gloss shine. Whilst not 100% dead flat on the turntable, it spins with an acceptable and reasonably minor amount of vertical movement and within normal levels.

Audio :   EX -
 
The LP plays extremely well indeed, it is dynamic and powerful with no distortion or obvious signs of groove wear,  It plays with some minor background noise but this isn’t excessive, although there is a little more noise on “More Fool Me”, being a very quiet track.  However, despite this it was an extremely pleasant listen throughout.
 
Labels: EX+
 
The Labels are in EX+ condition.  Nice clean label with just a few traces of spindle marks visible when held up to bright light.
 
Lyric Insert: EX
 
This is the thick card insert type and it is in Excellent condition.  It has no creases or other significant faults and lies flat.  Don’t be fooled by those that insist the lyric inner sleeve is the only true sign of a first pressing. I know of someone who bought a copy with the single lyric insert 3 days before it’s official release in 1973! 
 
 
Postage and Packing:
 
All records are placed in a brand new separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping.  Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s. These mailers are a high-grade type which reinforce the edges around the LP and as such they are larger and weigh more than standard mailers.  My postage costs reflect the additional size and weight of the packaging that I use.
