GENESIS.  From Genesis To Revelation. UK Press 1969 Decca SKL4990. 1st Stereo pressing with unboxed logo.  Extremely rare and reportedly sold just 649 copies at first release. Matrix is the very first stampers off the press with 1 B 1 B on each side. (from the sequential stamper series BUCKINGHAM  which Decca used on their LP’s).  Incredibly rarity.
 
The record has obviously been played a lot and this is not for anyone seeking a mint copy.  That said, despite quite a steady amount of background noise the actual sonic performance of this pressing is incredibly, the vocals are ultra rich and clear on this pressing,  but note the amount of light surface hairlines on this record  is numerous and this means that there is a certain amount of noise that is present pretty much throughout.  What a great find though, so rare in any condition.
 
 
Detailed Grading: -
 
Outer Sleeve: VG-
 
The gatefold  outer sleeve is graded VG- condition.  It shows general wear, and most notably there are 6 or 7 creases on the front (clarifoil) plus some small creases that adjoin the edges and spine.  Creases of this nature are very common on this LP.  The cover is generally clean, and has some traces of ring wear to the rear side, but actually less ring wear than average, as this LP is often found with a  distinctive white ring on the rear side of the cover.  There are some light line impressions on the rear when it is held to bright light, but these are minor and virtually unnoticeable in normal light.  The seams are intact and whilst they are worn they aren’t “woolly” or otherwise damaged
 
 
Vinyl: G+ to VG-
 
Probably closer to the latter grad, the record has numerous light hairline marks.  Whilst there are just a very few slightly more noticeable hairlines, there aren’t any real nasty marks on display and this is reflected in the playback, which generally has a consistent amount of crackle, but there are no really loud pops or bangs caused by a deep mark.  The record also plays through without skipping or sticking.  The most remarkable characteristic is the sheer clarity of Peter Gabriel’s vocal performance here.  The reproduction is quite stunning, and it’s all the more surprising given the general level of hairlines that are visible.  Therefore from a playback perspective it is definitely closer to VG than Good.  If you are looking for a copy that plays silently then this isn’t it, but if you don’t mind a certain level of background noise and can focus easily on the quality of the music then this LP should please you!

The Labels are in VG+ TO EX-  condition. Clean, although when viewed under bright halogen light quite a few spindle marks can be seen
 
Inner Sleeve:  Original Blue Decca Inner Sleeve with solid blue border and polyethylene lining. Condition is VG+, no rips or tears, just some general ageing.
 
No Lyric Inner with this copy. Sadly this is missing.  
 
 
Postage and Packing:
 
All records are placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping.  Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s. These mailers are a high-grade type which reinforce the edges around the LP and as such they are larger and weigh more than standard mailers.  My postage costs reflect the additional size and weight of the packaging that I use.
