Genesis : From Genesis To Revelation 1W / 2W 1st Boxed Decca Press w/ Indicator Hole & Lyric Insert

This first pressing on the blue boxed Decca label is superb!  As always I have played every track in full and the clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is second to none.  In all my years I have never heard one as clean and precise as this and it easily qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing.  There is no interference and the sonic quality is as it would have been back in '69.  It sold badly of course on initial release and this one must have been played once or twice and then stored carefully for the next 55 years!  The vinyl is visually stunning also.

The laminated cover is in lovely condition with hardly any wear, a genuine rarity when you consider how worn this cover is generally found.  The lyric insert is in great shape also and the poly-lined inner sleeve has only minimal wear.

The first press on the blue boxed label had the mono / stereo indicator hole on the back cover and the lyric insert shows both the mono and stereo catalogue numbers.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches, it is stunning!  Even when I look under a bright light I can only see a handful of ultra faint hairlines and they are difficult to find!  The grooves are so clean and there is obviously no 'bag rash'.  The run out grooves are very clean and the blue boxed Decca labels are basically perfect with no obvious spindle wear.

Play grading

The run in on S1 has no background and then 'When The Sour Turns To Sweet' is stunning!  The clarity of sound from start to finish could hardly be any more impressive and I only 'heard' a couple of quiet ticks on the final vocal near the end.  Very very quiet - blink and you miss them!  The depth and warmth of the audio is superb also and I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint- such is the quality.

The intro on 'In The Beginning' is perfect and the opening vocal is just as strong.  It continues to play with phenomenal quality and I cannot find one single negative and again the depth of the audio is incredible.  The piano end section plays beautifully with only one light static so I will say Mint- because of that.

The intro on 'Fireside Song' has no background and the first verse and chorus play to the same high end standard.  From then on there is no let up and again I cannot believe what I am listening to!  Has this record ever been played?!  No ticks, clicks, pops or static this is audio of the highest calibre and the instrumental end section has no interference either.  This is Mint with a capital M!

The 'bass intro' on 'The Serpent' is 'as new' and Gabriel's opening vocal is equal to that.  This is a powerful track and yet there is no distortion on the top end and every vocal and instrumental section plays with sublime quality.  It's quite bass 'heavy' (sounds superb by the way!) and yet there is no 'muddiness' to the sound and the piano end section is stunning with only a couple of barely audible dust ticks.  This also deserves to be graded as Mint

'Am I Very Wrong?' is flawless from beginning to end with no background at all.  Another Mint track.

The piano intro on 'In The Wilderness' is perfect and it continues in exactly the same way.  You might expect some inner groove distortion especially on the powerful second half but I didn't hear any!  The piano ending plays so clearly with only a hint of very quiet static so I will grade as Mint- but wow what an incredible side of music!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am pleased to say that sonically S2 is on the same level as S1.  I rarely do this but there is no need to describe each track in detail as they all play to the same high end standard.  This album of course has a number of quiet sections and they all play with incredible clarity.  An example of this is the 'One Day' intro which plays beautifully.  Every note on this side is so clean and precise and there is literally nothing getting in the way of the audio.

It's a shame this album sank without a trace at the time because in my opinion it is very underrated.  I think musically it is very impressive with some great melodies and lyrics.  Stunning really for a bunch of 17/18 year old lads.  The final track 'Silent Sun' is a case in point.  A superb track with impeccable clarity once more.  As per S1 every track grades as either Mint or Mint- as it could not play with any greater precision.  A handful of mega quiet statics that is all.  It goes without saying that this record has hardly ever been played.

The Cover, Lyric Insert & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in great condition and is easily one of the best I have seen, might even be top of the table!  The edges are so clean and the thin spine has no wear other than a couple of minor compressions.  The corners have only very minimal wear and the opening edge has no handling wear, it's just very slightly 'wavy'.  The laminated front cover is very clean with only a small number of minor edge creases next to the spine and a minor amount of laminate creasing in the lower right corner.  The back cover is stunning with only some faint fingerprints and as can be seen it has the mono / stereo indicator hole in the top corner.  A superb example.

The lyric inner has only 3/4 faint 'spots' and light creasing near the top edge in one small area.  Again a fine example of its kind.  The poly-lined inner just has some minor spotting and no splits or tears.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
